Hi, I have been researching, asking my team etc about yoga or what I can do to keep fit and to keep my muscles and bones strong. I still don’t have an answer for what I CAN do.. like what I’m allowed to do without doing any damage! Before my diagnosis I was very fit- 2 gym classes a week, a run at weekends and working all day on my feet. I’m an ex rower and rowed competitively for 15 years. Im so used to being active! I’m now devastated that all of a sudden I feel like an old woman and I’m scared to move or twist! I’ve been trying yoga online with a friend and the first session really upset me as it pointed out how much I couldn’t do and how fragile I feel and it really got me down. Im not supposed to put weight on my arm after mastectomy/reconstruction surgery either so that rules out a lot! I’m trying to do exercises/moves that suit me and trying to make my own routine of exercises that keep my spine and pelvis aligned... but it’s boring and so little exercise now makes me sore! Literally breaks my heart! I try to walk everyday which I can do for a bit before I’m sore. Can’t go to a swimming pool just now because of covid. Saw physio today and she was showing me little exercises but again it’s not what I’m used to- 5 reps of very easy movements! I feel useless and done! My 74 year old dad can do more! Anyone got any ideas/experience /suggestions of books or programmes? Feeling low tonight!
Hi
I'm sorry to read how low you're feeling. I can't help with what exercises you can do but I spotted that your post hadn't had any replies yet.
I hope you don't mind me suggesting that you also post this in both the breast cancer and secondary breast cancer groups as this will open it up to a larger audience. If you'd like to do this clicking on the links I've created will take you straight to those groups. I can see that you're already a member of the secondary breast cancer group but you'll need to join the breast cancer group before you can post there.
You could also post your questions about exercise in the ask a nurse section of the community and one of the specialist nurses will aim to reply within 2 working days. They may be able to provide links to safe exercises for you.
