Dear all,
Following my wife's recent CT scan, her consultant telephoned yesterday (instead of going in to the hospital because of restrictions) with very dissapointing news. It seems the cycles of chemotherapy have done nothing and the tumours have actually enlarged since the last CT scan in January.
They have now decided to stop chemo and apart from keeping in touch with us and suggesting palliative care can't do any more. This of course is devastating news and I am clutching at straws now but has anyone seeked second opinions? Also it seems if it was'nt for the virus going on there may have been the option of clinical trials.
many thanks for any advice
Hi and welcome to Carers, although I'm sorry to hear about your wife. It might be worth contacting PALS at the hospital where she has been treated to tell them how you feel and see what advice they can give. Other than that it might be more difficult given the coronavirus to find a second opinion but that doesn't stop you trying. Ask PALS which other consultants you might see and if your wife could be referred to one of the teaching/university hospitals. Give it a go and please let me know how you get on.
Hugs,
LoobyLou

Thank you LoobyLou, much appreciated. We are both rather numb today but that's good advice I had even forgotten about PALS. But as you say the coronavirus is making things so difficult.
thank you and best wishes
Dear LoobyLou, Just an update regarding your suggestion to try PALS - I contacted the team at the hospital (UCLH) and they suggested I put it in as a complaint to the hospitals complaint team.
Although I don't feel we are actually complaining I sent them all the details of what has happened but the automatic reply just said that all complaints are being put on hold for 3 months because of staff being involved in the coronavirus situation and to try the PALS team instead! - but I think I'll try to phone them instead to see if I have any luck this way.
T|hanks again for your help yesterday
regards
Neal
