Hello all,
I am very new to this. My mother has incurable cancer and has for the last couple of years. Just the last week she has deteriorated to the point we have a hospital bed in the living room.
I am struggling to comprehend how quick this is going and I do not know if her life is close to ending. I am only in my early 20's and finding this so difficult.
She's not eating, drinking, she's in and out of sleep, she's so skinny now and just looks so poorly.
I just need some advice of what to do and how to know what's happening.
Hi and welcome to the online community and to our very friendly carers group which has been set up to help and support you. We are very sorry to see you here but glad you found your way to join us.
This is a lot for you to have on your shoulders and you certainly should be reaching out for help and out there there is a lot of support available it's just finding where to start.
First of all as your mum is at home her overall care is the responsibility of her GP and he should be organising help you need from nurses including possibly a Macmillan nurse to come and see your mum and attend to her medical needs especially eating and drinking.
You need to have a meaningful talk with your mum's GP and ask all the questions you need to know about your mum's condition and her treatment plan without this life will be very difficult, you should always try and have someone with you at these meetings.
You also need to arrange for two assessments
These are carried out by your council's Adult Social Team and can be done at the same time or independently.

It might be to your advantage to contact the local hospice to see what help they can be to your mum especially as you have mentioned end of life.
You haven't mentioned if you are on your own or if you have any other relative to help you, in these circumstances you cannot expect to do everything yourself, you need to make sure that you look after yourself especially in the extraordinary times we find ourselves in.
Please come back to me a let me know that you have spoken to all the people above and that wheels have been set in motion for your mum to have the care she needs, deserves.
Look after yourself and take care and keep in touch.
