Hello lovely people,

So....my mum just needs some simple over the phone CBT sessions.....structured counselling that happens regularly. I cannot seem to get it anywhere I go!! I have been given some suggestions, but here are all the things we have tried and told that no help is available.....

Maggie's.....nearest centre is royal Marsden....need to be able to physically attend appointments, so no good for us.

Cancer support UK....telephone help available but you have to go in group calls, and mum cannot cope with hearing about other people's struggles....

Silver line......not suitable....mum isn't lonely and it is at best a Chatline...not psychology based counselling

Health in mind ( local through gp).....unless you can get to appointments they won't deal with you

GP.....see above

Local mental health team....including older persons community mental health team...came out to see mum....letter received this morning has referred her to cancer support UK, who are not suitable ( see above). Also suggested silver line and Samaritans.

Macmillan local counselling.....our best bet yet, but you still have to attend appointments physically.....3 made, and 3 cancelled as mum is too weak to get out of house. Got appointment next week as the chap running it won't give up on mum.....bless him.

Macmillan nurse.....non existent!!!. Plus.....just been told that the assigned nurses are transferring mum to a more local one......who hasn't surfaced yet......as we can't get appointment to see oncologist......as it's being transferred and mum still too unwell to leave house. So the Macmillan nurses she was originally assigned who you could never get hold of, have now washed hands of her, and she is in limbo between NHS trusts.

Any other suggestions please.....Macmillan helpline have helped but emotional support isn't really helping mum, and the nurses keep giving her different advice.

  • Hi , I really don't know what to suggest, you seem to have exhausted all the potentials. I know what you mean about getting conflicting advice but all I can do is commiserate and hope you get some help soon.

    Hugs,

Hi there, this is just a thought, are there any apps that could help your mum, or on line CBT. Obviously not ideal I really hope you get some help, is it worth another chat with the Gp and relaying what you have told us?  This seems so unfair xx

Would your mum be able to go online and work through some sessions.

I had a good old search and found this Mind about CBT and a work therapy session called Beating the blues.

Maybe if your mum can't use a computer could you sit together to complete the modules.

You need to have a GP referral for this.
