    My Dad

Like all daughters ( or most!!) my Dad is my superhero so needless to say this came as a total shock to us.

There are no words to convey just how awful it feels .

I have some blog entries I made on another site that I will copy and paste here , I suppose to show the harsh effect its had so far.

Dad was a joiner by trade at 18 and contracted the mesothelioma from the asbestos they worked with at the time, for a number of years now he has been aware that he could fall into that group who develop...

    Telgirls dance with cance.....32

    Hi All,

Long time no blog, have found the chemo regime really hard to handle, have never visited the doctors/hospital as much before in my life, sick of blood tests to check my blood count and viens are finally running into hiding as soon as a needle appears.

The first treatment went ok and had a good 5-6 days of wondering what it was all about as felt fine apart from a bit spacey. Second treatement and again a few days of feeling ok then feeling like pooh which resulted in trips to the doctors...

    Oncology Nurse

    Hi there

Just need to let off some steam, should really be in bed sleeping something I find hard to do since my poor mum has been diagnosed with cancer.

My mum is receiving intensive treatment at the Marsden for myeoloma.  Unfortunatley we have drawn the short straw when it comes to the oncology nurse, who is suppose to be there to support and advise patient and family.  This has been non exsistent and it makes me so mad especially when you are trying to deal with this awful disease!.  She is crap...

    Crisis over for now
G saw the eye specialist again yeaterday. No sign of any imflamation after the drops and cream prescribed, and he has been discharged from the clinic. Relief all round. This morning, a copy of the letter sent to his GP arrived. Although traumatic, this has been our first positive experience of the NHS for as long as we can remember. I'm still not sure whether this is because G was in a different speciality from cancer, or being treated at different hospital, or possibley both. At none of the...

    JanJan

I'm sure many of you will remember JanJan, who initially joined the site as a carer for her dad, who was suffering from lung cancer and her father-in-law who was suffering from bladder cancer.  Jan was a cancer nurse herself and gave a great deal of support to other members.

You may recall that last Autumn she was undergoing tests, that saw her, in a cruel twist of fate being diagnosed with, I think, leukaemia.  The last we heard from her was before the changes to the site, when she in hospital...

Dad is doing well-but they still won't commit to what cancer he has!

    Hi Everyone,
Dad is doing well at the moment, He still hasn't had anymore chemo yet though   not really sure why, But he is happy and plodding on, like us all i guess. Its the not having the info i guess thats getting us down-the docs don't know so we don't it's just sooooo confusing. We believe he will have another chemo on tuesday so hopefully he will still be seeing the oncologist before hand and they may have a little more info for us. Love to you all. xxxxxxxxx

    Part 4

After what seemed like the longest week of my life, the wait was finally over and i walked into the clinic to see the consultant.First of all I was checked out by the registrar who wanted to know if the drain had had stopped draining ,it hadnt so they said it would have to stay in for at least another week.At this stage it was the least of my worries and i was impatient to see the consultant.

The consultant finally came in.once again he said how sorry he was,but he reitterated that he was sure that...

  • My Melanoma Radiotherapy Diary
    Planning CT scan

So I've had my planning CT scan.  Went by train from Warwick to Birmingham as this is the trip I will have to do during the treatment.  Not too bad. A bit of walking between stations.  Hopefully will be able to have my treatment and still do the school run in the morning and afternoon, so hoping to get a lunchtime appointment slot.

Got changed into my gown, which will be mine for the next 3 weeks. and then taken in for my scan.

A radiographer sat down with me and went over how long my radiotherapy...

  • My Melanoma Radiotherapy Diary
    Background

From doctors discussing my illness over and over again, between Birmingham and the Marsden, they have finally made a decision on how to treat my melanoma tumours.  I have 2 tumours at present, one behind my breastbone, which is growing and very painfull, and one below my right kidney.  The plan of attack is to use radiotherapy for 3 weeks on my breastbone tumour, then an operation on my kidney tumour.  So start radiotherapy next Tuesday (23/02/10) for three weeks.  Hopefully keeping a diary will help...
