Oncology Nurse

1 minute read time.

Hi there

Just need to let off some steam, should really be in bed sleeping something I find hard to do since my poor mum has been diagnosed with cancer.

My mum is receiving intensive treatment at the Marsden for myeoloma.  Unfortunatley we have drawn the short straw when it comes to the oncology nurse, who is suppose to be there to support and advise patient and family.  This has been non exsistent and it makes me so mad especially when you are trying to deal with this awful disease!.  She is crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.She ignores my mother which is appalling!!!!!!!!!!!!!.  I am in the caring profesional and I would never treat someone like this.  I have not approached the nurse because I could not trust myself what I would say.  I would like to make an offical compliant but that would make matters worse and my poor mum does not want me to cause any problems.  But I want to scream at her and say pull your bloody finger out and do your job support the patient and family.  Sorry everyone but feel much better for writing it all down and letting others know.  God only knows we have enough to contend with let  alone crap service.

Oh Fi, that is so difficult!  I hope you meet some other nurses there that you can come to count on.  I went through that with my mother, doctors too, very hard to deal with all that while you are trying to deal with illness.  Hang in!  Be vigilante and on your toes.

I do sympathise.  G's so called specialist nurse is worse than useless.  Messages left on her answerphone are either not answered, or any  replies he does get bear no relation to the question he asked.  I suspect that what she doesn't know, she makes up.  She is not very keen to impart information, I think it gives her some sort of power complex to have patients believe that she knows more than they do.  It wouldn't be so bad if the NHS wasn't paying her such a massive salary for nothing. It is difficult to complain, when I complained   to her that the promised scan had not been done after three cycles of chemo, and she told me she would look into it "when she had time"  i blew my top!  only to be told at the next appointment with the oncologist that it was not her job to make appoointments for scans!  She is a total waste of space.  So sorry your mum is going through this too.
