Hi all, no reply to my asking if anyone else has spinal stenosis caused by the bones crumbling trapping the nerves. My op is due on 19th but at the moment I am struggling with the pain. I would love to know if anyone else has had op and can reassure me that the pain will go. Also any tips to cope. Difficult to stay cheerful when it hurts to move.

  • My thyroid cancer journey
The puzzle is slowly coming together

After more tests and an MDT meeting I feel like everything that has been going on is slowly coming together now ready for my operation on the 17th.

Last week I had an ultrasound on my thyroid as, up to this point I had never had a scan or anyone look at it in detail. The doctor who scanned me was really thorough and took her time to explain everything to me. She showed me that the cancer was within the left hand side of my thyroid, as well as in 2 further lymphnodes.  These are both located...

    Can't take it anymore

After nearly 14 weeks in hospital I had my sarcoma removed last Friday, it was looking a success but unfortunately my skin graft hasn't taken so I need further surgery. I feel incredibly upset as I thought I could see the light at the end of the tunnel. I am at my lowest point as I can't face anymore I just want to be home with my lovely family. I can't stop crying and I've never felt so hopeless and weak. I'm having a vac dressing fitted tomorrow and then will need a skin graft so long as the muscle...

    Moving on ....

On some days, I find it tiring just walking up the stairs in my own house. I am getting plenty of sleep so I am not tired in that way but my legs ache heavily as I drag myself up the steps. These are the same stairs I am use to constantly running up and down without even thinking.

Makes me think I would probably need a bungalow when I get older a stair lift!
I know this tiredness will not last forever and I was told it could be weeks or months after treatment before I get back to normal...

Wicked wicked woman for hiding under the duvet!!!

Thought when I started this that I would be upbeat and cheery- FAILED!!! So many apologies to all for not being consistent. Can't even remember what I said last time I was here- but quite a lot has happened since I last posted. SO HERE WE GO!!!

Had all my three weeks of I/V antibiotics - boring and to be honest don't think it did a thing - cos still getting chest infections (which I ignore until I feel I am on the top of Everest and oxygen is failing miserably) - allergic to so many antibiotics...

  • Daughter....what do i do?
What do i do? Mothers cancer has spread

Last year my mother complained of an ulcer in her mouth. I have her bonjela and thought nothing of it. Weeks went by and it Stoll hadn't gone away so i took her to the doctors. The doctor looked at the back of her throat and gave her some spray. Didn't even look at the ulcer on the tongue. The next day i asked if i could have a look. I took a lollipop stick and looked at the side of her tongue. Straight away i could see what it was. The ulceration had grown and was now protruding from her tongue...

  • Till we meet again
Coming to terms with the news.

Three weeks have passed since we learned the devestating news.

The cancer is terminal they said, you freeze and say WHAT. This is news coming from a family member so can you imagine hearing this about yourself from the consultant.

Still hasn't sunk in. Will it ever, maybe eventually or maybe not.

Take it day by day they say, let it sink in. Still hasn't sunk in for me , as much as I try. Haven't told the grandchildren, who are 11 and 8. Any advice on how to approach this is welcomed...

    Tamoxifen

I had a follow up appointment with the consultant today. He wasn't surprised with the side effects of chemo catching up on me and also the fatigue from the radiotherapy too, making it worse. My throat is seriously sore and feeling run down but he tells me my immune system is low so I will feel extra rotten. But nonetheless, he congratulated me on completing chemo.

We discussed the next stage which would be a bone density scan and also tamoxifen, which I would need to take for a number of years...

  • G3pT1 - BCG - pain, bleeding cystoscopy optical urethrotomy
    story to date

Hello everyone, I have been on this journey for about one year, mine started like a few others I have read, bleeding and treated as an infection until I pasted what I describe as tomato sauce. I had the rigid Cystoscopy and found the tumour; looking similar to an water anemone,

I had the tumour removed but they had to break it down to get it all out, this in its self worried me because my father once described cancer as fungi and once its cut or damaged it released spores into the body. so not a good...

  • A new chapter
    Hair loss

Last week, I lost my first hair. I brushed my head wit my hand and, not a clump, but half a dozen hairs lay caught between my fingers. I knew it was coming, so was interested rather than shocked (also slightly relieved that if it is coming out, I'd rather it start before I attempt the cold cap again!). I gently finger combed my scalp to find more coming out around the edges of my hair. I had visions of my hair receding all round leaving me with a tufty top. I decided to make the transition to scarves...
