  • Sew I have cancer!
    I'm hooked

In the pit of despair that was last week, the temple of peace at the bottom of my garden seemed as remote as the Himalayas.

Then something odd happened last Sunday. I got up and something felt distinctly different but I couldn't put a finger on it. I had a shower and then it dawned on me; I felt well. Not only was I not in pain, I felt positively perky. Monday came and again, I felt, like me. I felt like me! I hadn't felt like this since last year. It was like waking up after an awfully long vivid...

    Hair Loss Week

sounds like an episode of GBBO

at the weekend I lost the majority of hair from under my armpits, they are now smooth, think Nic is now jealous.

Monday Nic goes to work and although I had been slowly thinning during ABVD I was probably at 80% of my usual hair volume. I had very thick hair and it had always been thinned out by the barber so to most people the difference was negligible and no doubt many would not have realised. Anyway take a shower and realise that genuine clumps of hair are coming...

  • My amazing friend
    No finer guy

Daniel's journey with Stage 4 Ewings Sarcoma started a little over a year ago (well, that he knew of!)  Watching the way he and his partner Evie have dealt with this couldn't fail to amaze and inspire.  They are both truly remarkable.  They've faced this thing head on, never doubting that he will kick this thing into remission and even retaining their sense of tumour! (Daniel's joke, not mine!)

So I decided to start this blog as a testament do Daniel's sheer tenacity, fierce determination...

    Horse of the year show

2015 has been a year of challenge and tribute. This you feel even more when arriving at the NEC outside Birmingham to compete at the highest level show jumping.
The challenge at the NEC, before any competition is finding out where to go and how to get there. It applies to everything from hotels, restaurants and arenas. The tributes are equal in finding out where to go as well as finding great buys!
48 hours later I'm leaving with a new bag full of new useful stuff! Hm, luckily...

  • My Breast Cancer Journey.
    MRI Scan

An MRI scan for breast cancer is not the most glamorous event. I had to lie face down with both of my breasts hanging down and out through two holes cut into the bed. There was a drip in my right arm to administer a radioactive dye that will show up the blood vessels in my breasts. The whole idea is to see if there are any other suspicious areas in my left breast, where I already know there is a tumour, plus to see if there is anything in the right breast. Last week, my breast care nurse told me...

  • Here I Go Again???
    Day 2 after Op

Hi. Well, I got through it of course, as we all have to do.

I had to get to the hospital for 7.30am. I got to see the nurse first of all to get my lovely wrist bracelets and super stylish stockings and had blood pressure done. Then got to see the surgeon who I had not met before. The consultant I had seen when I got my results was on holiday. I had re-read my letter and he was not  on the breast units staff list, so when I saw the nurse and she asked if I had any questions I asked who he was and found...

    Starting Chemo

Since my last blog post, I started chemo and I'll say the positive thing straight away. I had one day of chemo almost 3 weeks ago, and saw the doctor yesterday. She is very encouraged because my cough/wheezing have almost disappeared at the moment. I got the impression she thinks it's because the chemo is working, which is really good news, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much (hard not to!)

I was really nervous before the chemo, I just didn't know what to expect. They put SO...

  • A journey through throat cancer
    Good news!

Today I received the results of my post-treatment PET scan. It seems like good news! No test is perfect and as my consultant said, I am not out of the woods yet - I will be followed up for five years to watch out for possible relapses - but the scan did not detect any obvious signs of cancer. In the wording of the scan report's conclusion, "the appearances are compatible with a complete response to therapy".

Uff! To put it mildly, I am somewhat relieved.... 5 months since diagnosis...

    The weekend / Hypochondria?

well that was a disappointing weekend. Start with the rugby, hopes and dreams are all it was after all. not a good display from most of the players out there, inconsistent selection, not bringing our best players to the World Cup and no identity. What are we? Conservative or Expansive? Seem to play different dependent on which players are on the field, surely just pick a style pick the players to suit that style and then commit to us performin that style better not matter which team we are up against...
