    Feeling more like myself now
The desens chemo over now and I am finally feeling a bit more like myself. My bowels don't want to cooperate exactly, but I haven't been eating like my old self either. The bowel meds they gave me were AWFUL. Bloating, gas...no way for me. I feel that way already!! Lots of water is doing the trick for now. I am on the avastin trial and have to watch my blood pressure each day. I run a wee bit high anyway so I purchased a BP cuff...very cool, and keep track of it. And of course, I have to...

    More good news!
Hi all, Its good to read good news and be able to post good news. Got my scan results after a week of waiting expecting the worst and there is no evidence of disease! Starting 6 months post op oral chemo tomorrow (xeloda) 2 weeks on 1 week off, to help stop it coming back. That's not bad for stage 3 and lymph node involvement. Feeling really positive now. Will have all my 3 girls around tomorrow, so going out for a pint to celebrate! Wishing good news for everyone. Jo x

    Feeling really good post chemo
Have not been on here much lately, since chemo finished on 29th December have been trying to live a normal life and so far have been fine. We went on holiday to Barcelona last week and it was really good.Did not feel tired, walked miles and went clubbing, had lots of late nights, met nice people. The sun was shining and the sky was blue.Got my purse stolen as soon as I got there so had to make about 63 phone calls to various banks etc. Normally I would have been really upset about this but all I...

    One Small Step
Firstly thanks Comkick I appreciate the support, to clear up the point you made - yes I am having a mini transplant or using the hospital terminology "reduced intensity peripheral blood stem cell transplant" now isn't that a tongue twister if ever there was one! Secondly, hooray one of the things that has been causing me stress is finally being sorted out. As previously stated my sister lives in Australia and will be coming to the UK to provide the stem cells for me. As we are having to pay for...

    Desensitization is over
Well, since it turned out I was allergic to carboplatin I needed the desensitization to it in ICU. I had it two days ago now and so far so good...no reactions. Not allergic to the paclitaxol either...yahoo!! The doctor who invented this procedure is Mariana Castell...google her...she's legit. She is affiliated with the Brigham and Women's hospital in Boston Massachussetts in the US. The hospital is in the top of its field...you can google it too. Sometimes life IS good. I'm going to rest now...

    Let Us Eat Cake!
Now, I'm not one to complain. The nurses in our chemo suite are chipper, chatty and charming, doing a job I could never do, and why they do not all receive gongs in the Hons List escapes me. I know it's not their fault, but is feeding chemo patients another postcode lottery factor?? We get the following fare offered: - Soup. I make a vat of it every 3 days or so at home for nourishment, which I maintain by careful sealing and refridgeration. Am I wrong in having an entrenched idea of it festering...

Looking for advice - My mum had her last chemo 4 weeks ago, was supposed to start another cycle last Thursday, but, her bloods were very low so, no chemo, my mum is very weak & appears to be getting weaker! is this normal?, (was her 4th cycle of chemo) I thought that with her not having had her chemo for a month that she might start to pick up, (her tumour had shrunk significantly - result of scan mid January) also very poor appettite. At her consultation on Thursday she did,nt see her normal consultant...

    CML Transplant
Well I guess it is one thing to decide to create a blog but quite another when you start thinking about what to put in it. I guess a little background is the place to start. I was diagnosed with CML in May 2007. Treatment with Imatinib and Dasatinib has failed, my blood counts fall too low and I can't tolerate enough of the drugs to work on the cancer. The decision was made in Jan of 2009 that I would have a stem cell transplant at Addenbrooke's hospital in Cambridge and the provisional date is...

Warning - not to do with cancer!!!
Hi all, Just thought I would share this 'funny' (or not) with you. Sitting here with freezing cold feet, so had an ingenous idea, thought I would put my socks in the microwave wrapped in kitchen roll to warm them up. Never done this before, so set the timer for 2 minutes. Then after about 1 minute there was smoke coming out of the microwave and my socks and the kitchen roll had set on fire!!! The whole kitchen stinksof smoke now and I can hardly breathe!!! Take note if your chemo brain tells...
