  • Mum's Ignorance Is Not My Bliss
Do you think I look thin?

Visited mum today, took the kids who all made her feel loved with lots of hugs and hastily drawn pictures - flowers from my daughter and 'The sun with legs that walk' (?) given to her by my four year old. She loves seeing them all, even my 13 year old was less 'uggish' than his usual self.

We didn't stay long, she gets tired and also gets a bit circular with her conversation, about an hour and a half maximum for her at the moment. She hates anyone knowing she has Alzheimer's and...

  • Mum's Ignorance Is Not My Bliss
    My Mum - an introduction.

She is, in her own words the other day when I was trying to convince her to have a recliner to help her increasingly swollen legs - 'Cussed awkward'.

'I know I'm being cussed awkward, but I'm not having one of those chairs, they're for old people'.

    She's 77.

Trying to deal with my mum and pinpoint problems is like trying to figure out how to 'remove' puzzle pieces so you can pick apart one picture from the other. She has dementia, depression, high blood pressure...

Too scared to enter the room. DVT

I am too scared to go into the room…..if I kicked the door too hard, it would either come back at me twice as hard or just kept going round and then send me flying into the room….splat…  I need to stay upright for now!

Thursday was a really BAD day…..to come out of hospital after a 6 hour regular check up appointment to news that a friend has committed suicide, aged 41…..why they call it the icing on the cake, there was nothing sweet about it…..sorry for doom but I have to get...

2nd June my letter has arrived

well I'm on count down now , my admission letter arrived this morning so at least I don't have to wait over the long weekend, I'm going in for surgery on 20th June - 18 days and counting, At last I have a time frame , I can sort out work, tidy the house and organise my sky + ( very important)

one thing I'm not too thrilled about is that the hospital I'm going to has a system where everyone having surgery that day goes to the surgical admission unit then to theatre and then they are...

Chemo session No3 for Jonah - bearer of bad Luck

    1st June

Yes I think that as an infant I had been wrongly named since Jonah is more apt especially for this part of my life. Almost from the start of in the Day Ward (09.39) did things go wrong. Firstly my drugs were not ready since I had had an afternoon slot yesterday for blood tests and a consultation, which meant that the prescription was not sent to Pharmacy until this morning. Then secondly it appeared that my PICC line was blocked whilst the nurse attempted to flush it. This was resolved...

  • my journey back to me
1st June 2012 the start of my journey

just 6 weeks ago my life was normal, I went to work, texted my friends , spoke to my daughter and watched TV in the evening unaware that my whole world was just about to be turned upside down, My routine mamagram was the next day - no worries it wasn't my first and the only reason I wasn't really looking forward to it was because the radiographer at the last one had been less than pleasent but never mind it was only 5 minutes and then forget it for 3 years, ... move forward 3 weeeks and I'm sitting...

  • The page in the book I never wanted to read.....
    1st day of chemo

Well after a fbusy day at work, chemo day beings.

    I am receiving Carboplatin only.

I in the chemo until for just under 2 hours, but wired up to the drop for about 45 mins only.

The nurses were lovely, the atmosphere was somewhat nice, not somber as you might think, and i came out of the whole experience feeling a lot more positive.

I know the chemo i am having mgiht not do anything as the mucinous carcinoma doesnt respond well, i know they think its from the gut, and im receiving ovarian...
