Ask your lung and chest cancer questions - part two

    Hi again.

I hope you found my last post helpful. My next post answering your lung and chest cancer questions will be on Thursday 16th August.

If you've got something you'd like to ask, post your question in the comments below this post before then, and I will do my best to post the answer in my next blog.

As before, I'll be covering thoracic cancer, which includes lung cancer and other cancers which have started in the chest or spread there from another part of the body. Remember, ...

    Mixed results

So, the past few days, John's been feling really well.  Not cranky, not moody, not bumping into things, not exceptionally tired.  It's been really good.

On Tuesday, we saw the oncologist and asked to see the scans - compare/contrast old vs new ones and to see, for the first time, exactly how many and how big.  The news was relatively good.  Most of the tumours in the vital organs have stayed the same or even shrunk by about 1mm+/-.  This means that the dacarbazine is doing its job, with mixed...

    I feel a party coming on - 9th August 2012
Nobody can rain on my parade today - and I can't wipe the silly grin off my face either. It was follow-up day, getting the results of all the bits of me they cut off 10 days ago, and it all seems like very good news indeed.
The lymph nodes on the left hand side - all three of them they scooped out to peer at down the microscope - are completely clear of cancer! I wanted to sing and dance with Mr Lovely himself when he broke that brilliant piece of news. He was very good...

  • Two control freaks and one gets cancer.
Out in less that two hours - result!

Today was the first time in 2 weeks that we were at the hospital for less than 2 hours - bonus!

Tomorrow will not be so lucky as the dreaded peg goes in and he's in over night. I loath the idea of leaving him there and going home. I feel shut out and out of control and it's not something i like!

Helping my MIL through her treatment

    Hi

My MIL has just started her chemo (yesterday). She was very upbeat and was, pleasantly suprised at how much better it was than she had feared and initillly thought. She returned home after 2 hours drip feed treatment with steroids and was very positive. Today, she has woken in a very different place. She has been unable to stop crying. She says that she does not feel unwell or seem to be suffering any side effects from yesterdays ordeal. It is obviously distressing to hear her so upset and I...

    We're Still Here!

Sorry for the lack of contact since February, things have been manic all round with kids, college and family events....finally i can update you on everything!

Dad is now off his chemo and is on fortnightly doses of Cetuximab which has done more than just keep the cancer from spreading, it, along with the chemo, has shrunk the cancer right down to minimal size and the doctors and specialists are happy to just be ongoing now with the Cetuximab and 3 monthly scans. Dad is massively upbeat and seems...

    Thank You - 5th August 2012
Four days at home have so far been blissful, especially since yesterday when I went back to the hospital and had the horrid drain removed. I grew to hate the drain – it went into my side at the bottom of my ribcage, all the way up to my collarbone, and it was a little spooky when I moved suddenly and so did it – often in the opposite direction completely. I had some funny moments with it, like the time I forgot all about it when I walked through into the kitchen and suddenly got...

  • So here we go - right or wrong
A piece of wisdom I found.....

Don't know who wrote this & you've probably read it elsewhere, but it seemed singularly appropriate.

" There are things we don't want to happen but have to accept, things we don't want to know but have to learn and people we can't live without but have to let go."

Ouch - as if we didn't know!!

    My Needle-Phobic Past - 2nd August 2012
When someone comes near me with a needle, I just cannot cope emotionally. My normal intelligent, rational, logical, sensible self evaporates into a fog of uncontrollable sobbing, and I feel myself being dragged back to the distant and not so distant past, vividly reliving awful previous experiences.
As far as needles, etc, are concerned, I have plenty of awful previous experiences to choose from, and it’s like a door opens wide in my brain and I just fall back into the past,...
