    A Pat on the Back

Oh I am a smug Little person. It was my birthday at the week-end - the first birthday without my lovely man around. I was dreading it, so I thought ahead and planned my own Lunch for Lovelies and asked some of the people who have been good to me, supporting me, taking me out, phoning every so often etc etc

Sunday arrived - 17 people to lunch. Panic, panic, panic. Am I mad? What have I done? I am exhausted already. Why am I doing this? More panic. Everything was so much easier when D. was here. Now...

    Chemo yesterday

    Well that wasn't so bad....

Didn't realise how long it would take even though people had said, it always seems longer when it's you sat there lol

All went through with no issues.

I was sitting next to a guy who had Hodgkins as well but was back after being clear for 4 years.

His was stage 3 and mine stage 1 so not exactly the same I know but he gave me an insight into the ABVD as he had had that 1st time round.

Feeling a bit washed out today, I feel like I'm rolled up in a...

    Stressed

Nan had 4 rounds of chemo and was doing brilliantly. All the consultants, nurses and doctors were amazed at how well she took it on. About a month ago, the first blip occured and nan got an UTI. The doctor prescribed antibiotics but was sent to hospital because the infection was somewhere else. She stayed in Cheltenham hospital for about a week were she had scans to see what the chemo had done. Since the infection she has been incredibly confused and forgetful so mum was convinced it spread to her...

  • Can I help you? can you help me?
thoughts have turned to returning to work - but for some reason I am indecisive....

I think i ought to return to work.  chemo is done and each day is surely a day when the chemo is less in my body?

but i am reluctant.  i havent worked in the office since i did a couple of half weeks at the end of April, before my 2nd op. i have worked from home a bit since then - until the docetaxil put paid to that!

I was, no I am, an office and facilities manager and was damn good at my job too! but will i be now?  Cancer and the ops and the treatment have caused me to re-evaluate whats important...

    A chilly afternoon

A bright autumn afternoon in Exmouth

I'm moulting, moulting! Ohhhhh, what a world, what a world.
    - paraphrased from The Wizard of Oz

So, I was let out of isolation after four days, without mishap. However, on the second day - a bit under two weeks after the first chemotherapy session - I started noticing I was shedding both beard and hair, and within a few days they were so thin and patchy that I decided to cut to the chase and get rid of the beard, and a day later the hair. I cut it short...

    Frustration and sadness all around

Where do I start?  He's mobile enough to help here and there a couple of times a day; but mostly just ambulatory enough to get in the way.  Often times, he thinks he is helping but is doing something just a bit silly that needs undoing and then doing properly.  He can't remember many things, nor say many things properly.  I get frustrated because half the time I don't know what he's on about, or I am just trying to ignore what he's saying so I don't start getting wound up.  He's...

    Crazy Time

I’m having a crazy time of it.

Since my diagnosis I have been pretty upbeat about things taking things in my stride.

The most used line so far is ‘Well its Hodgkins so they can do something about it!’

The problem is inside I’m thinking ‘What the hell is happening, I have no control over this and probably the one we all think Why me!’

As I have not started treatment yet I’m also worried about that and the affects it’s going to have on me, my family and my work...

  • Our Journey
    Today was a bad day

My Dad's been in hospital for almost two weeks now. He's been going to the hospice day hospital once a week and they did a blood test, it found he had high calcium levels (?) which is apparently normal and treatable with lung cancer. Anyway, he had to go to A&E for treatment, which turned into him being admitted and staying in hospital for two weeks. He's had saline drips and his pain meds have been changed (not sure what to) and he's really gone downhill fast in these two weeks. I took my mum to...
