    Where are all my friends?
For people who read my last couple of blogs, they will know that my son was diagnosed on Monday with a large (11cms) tumour in his left side near kidney and bowel. We saw the surgeon yesterday, and the date for the op is 29th June. It will be a massive op - and we all came out of the hospital feeling pretty hopeless. But today, I want to talk about support. Now there's one thing about me that can be good - but can also be bad. And that is that I'm very honest (but not rude) hate bullshit, hypocrisy...

The Blood Donor team didn't want me - but everyone else had made their own plans!
I knew today was going to be bad – and I was right. Not really bad bad – and not all day – the worse was the last part of this afternoon. Well, really only the bit at half past six, when the Donor Carer at the Blood Donor session told me that I would never – ever – be able to give blood again. I suppose I can understand the reasons why – they don’t really have a grip on whether cancer spreads through blood transfer – they don’t know a successful way of killing any cancer cells in donated blood ...

    Getting wiggy with it!
The head shaving went very well. I was really worried that it would be a very emotional experience and actually it wasn't at all. It was fab! My hairdresser took me upstairs to the training area of the salon so that we were on our own and I swear he must have spent 2 hours doing it! He took such good care of me.... First he cut, then he shaved and got closer and closer each time. He is so lovely - he then went out and bought a razor and foam at the local chemist and did a wet shave three times...

    life after chemo
Well, all completed on the chemo front- 6 cycles of carbo/taxol all done, went to have the trial drug (ICON 7- avastin) on wed, and the results of the ct scan that I had on mon. all came back clear- CA125 is back down to 8, and all in all a good day, couldnt have the avastin as my bloods were rubbish, they wanted to give me a transfusion, but have had enough of having stuff put in my arm, so have opted for the natural way- lots of green leafy veg for me! feels weird (again!) as the consultant said...

    At my wits end
Hi, I feel kind of stupid doing this on the internet, but I don't like to let my feelings show a whole lot. My wife of 7 years was rediagnosed with cancer 1-08, since then they did all the Chemo and everything they could do. She had cancer when she was about 35 and now it is back again. After a year and a half of Chemo they said there is nothing more they can do. Basically it is a waiting thing. Recently she was in constant pain almost 24 7. I tell you I damn near had a nervous breakdown. I...

    Life is sometimes so hard
Hi Everyone - I know that I am not suffering from the dreaded "C" however I think that partners, wives, husbands, boyfriends, girlfriends, whatever, suffer also. John has just had his fifth bout of chemo and is being very sick, despite strong anti-emetics. I feel absolutely helpless and useless - does anyone out there feel the same? Sometimes feel like stabbing myself in the eye to relieve inner tension as it is SO HARD to watch loved ones suffering. Anyone out there feel the same??!!!! Lol ...

The First Aid Course - properly, this time!
Recipe Take thirteen people – 11 men and two girls – who have all worked with each other for years; add a trainer who has a specific subject to teach in a set timeframe; mix well with a large sprinkling of mickey-taking and laughter, together with an element of embarrassment and nerves. Cook gently in a sun-baked training room for six hours. Turn out when finished. The subject was Emergency First Aid and, for most of us, it was the second / third / fourth time we had taken it. (The course should...

I have a port and I'm not afraid to use it!!!!
This morning I treated myself to a bacon sandwich, a glass of orange juice and a coffee for breakfast as I had been told to be nil by mouth from 08:00 onwards. I arrived on the ward at 12 o'clock today as requested. A nurse had two unsuccessful attempts at getting a needle into my hand and ended up getting the ward sister to find a vein in the outer side of my arm to fit the cannula to take bloods as well as to administer the drugs for the operation. Initially I was told I was scheduled for 13...

    The First Aid Course
I'm so very sorry, my friends. I'm having a really black evening for some reason. I've been writing for an hour or so and just binned it all because I wasn't happy with it. Can't blame chemo-brain - can't even blame booze - I'm just a bit down. No - I'm a lot down! However - like Tigger - I'll bounce back. Soon, I hope. Thank you all for the fantastic comments on the recent blogs - I love writing and I love entertaining you. I just cannot do you all justice right now. Much love Steve xx ...
