Trying not to panic but not succeeding

    Hi,

Had a routine colonoscopy on Monday, they found a "swellling" and took a biopsy.  Despite a clear scan in June (2 years clear since the big cancer op in May 08) am now sprialling with panic that the cancer is back.  Don't know anyone or any books to refer to  with any experience of dealing with recurrence of a cancer.  I can't think of anything else this swelling could be as most other things I think the doc could have diagnosed just looking at it e.g. polyps, diverticulos, colitis...

Good day, but not so good night

    Thursday.

A visit to see her consultant at the hospital, while nothing can be done the interest shown was reassuring. She used the wheelchair, I really must learn how to get it into the car boot. A further appointment was made for 6 weeks, the consultant saying she was sure she would be able to attend, a real morale booster. At home she used her computer, had lunch and tea (and a snack of a slice of pizza which my aunt brought over), and seemed pretty well. The District Nurse visited, and after...

    A good week

Two weeks since finishing treatment and I'm happy to report that I'm loads better. A week ago I was still needing daytime rests and my skin was still very delicate, but this week I have been in work and have been to ballet (twice! Yay!).

I was discharged by the oncologist today. He was happy with my progress (including my reporting improvements in bowel movements which he takes to be a very good sign), and has handed me over to the surgeon. My lovely specialist nurse is booking scans for...

    Coming home

I collected her from the hospice yesterday lunchtime, complete with two carrier bags of medication. She was rather anxious about (I think she felt secure in the hospice) and I was concerned about her having an anxiety attack, which had put her into the hospital in the first place. With a little reassurance from myself and the staff she got in the car and we drove home. I settled her down, sorted out her medication, most of the bulk was clexain and nebules for her nebuliser, and compared...

    Another First!

It is my daughters 5th birthday today and when the family all turn up at 6pm Dad isn't going to be with them. He was the present unpacker, the new toy player and the 'entertainer' and my children's parties.

I will be very aware that he is missing but hopefully Cerys won't be!
Lots of love to you all......
