I feel like we are just treading water now.
I can't make plans for anything more than a couple of weeks ahead, because I don't know if we would be able to carry them out. Our daughter is singing with something for school and we need to buy tickets, do I or don't I get tickets. How quickly will David deteriate.
David thinks we should get a starlift, but I don't know if we would get the use out of it.
Also it could take 3-4 weeks before it gets installed, he dosen't really need it...
Well I saw my consultant yesterday for the results of my scan and was pleasantly surprised that nothing has really changed from the last one. There is a small mass (1.5 cm) low in the pelvis and an enlarged lymph node in the same area that is a matter of millimetres.....and that is it! I have no pain or other symptoms, apart from the muscle pain in my legs from the Taxol. He felt my tummy, shoulders and neck, pushed all the way down my back, listened to my chest and pronounced everything normal....
doing abseil in 12 days time scared of heights must be mad its something like 178 feet high in old money hope i can raise loads of cash for macmillan it will be worth it then
3rd dose of octreotide today. Last 8 weeks have shot by. CT scan in a couple of weeks to see how it is working. It has certainly done something .... even if only to extend the hand of hope. Whilst I accept my lot as a 1 in 3 with some (twisted) amusement (ok, thymoma is not so much of a rib-tickler any more but I'm sure there is some new material out there ...!), there is no way I could handle things without those life savers in Addenbrookes and Papworth. They are truly stars. Richard.
We've had good news. It seems my dads kidney cancer isn't back. But the pain he's been getting in his hips isn't good news. We thought it was arthritis and that he would need a hip op but the scan was clear. There was no wear and tear on his hip. The consultant thinks its bone cancer. He has to go for a blood test tomorrow.
I feel numb and don't know what to think at the moment. My mum is distraught. I'm trying to reassure her that we don't know for definite but it's hard. I guess...
My poor son has to go back to Barts after 5 years in remission, i cant but help feel sad for him(we are not the closest of mums and sons) but having to go through this is awfull once but faced with it twice is tragic at such a young age. It seems his liver is an issue now as was before when he had testicular cancer, with stomach, lung an dliver secondries.Finding the strength to do the fight again must be so hard as i am ony half way through my chemo and have had enough allready, imagining knowing...
Having read the 'dumb things people say' forum, I feel a bit guilty myself.
When I was first diagnosed with superficial bladder cancer, I rather made light of it. My brother has had it & is now discharged after several recurrencies & then sufficient clear cystoscopies. I thought I'd be the same & before I got my histology results I made comments, rather to reassure my friends & colleagues, like 'some cancers aren't as bad as others' & 'if you've got to have cancer at least it's...
It all started in September 2010. Dad (who was 81 at the time) started to lose weight and suffer from abdominal pain. His GP said it was indigestion and gave him all the normal stuff ..Gaviscon etc ..none of it worked . Dad also suffers from COPD and is hospitalized periodically with chest infections and it was after one of these episodes that his GP told him thet he couldn`t do any more for him . Needless to say dad soon said goodbye to that GP and signed on with another!
He only saw his new GP...

Despite the rain - and there was a lot of it - me and a few hundred others (maybe more) turned up in Winchester for the Race for Life; and it was amazing. My wonderful husband and kids got kitted out in full wet weather gear to be able to cheer me along. I ran all but 2 mins and finished (with a sprint) in 34 minutes 23 seconds (a PB by almost 2 mins). When the going got tough I made a mantra in my head of all my wonderful friends and families who have battled cancer, including all of you guys here...
