I've never written a blog or anything like this but i think i it will help me. Over the past seven months three of my family members have all been dianosed with tumours. In may dad was diagnosed with bowel cancer six weeks later, My mum was diagnosed with lung cancer second time but had surgery and is in remission. She had already beaten breast cancer and we thought she had beaten lung cancer. Mum's life has completely changed she is unable to go out without myself or my sister. Dad can't help out...
I escaped ward 20 on Tuesday, seven days after the op. I am now making a really good recovery even if I do say so myself!
The op was performed by key hole so I was under general anaesthetic for around six hours: colostomy and then (I think it is called) AR resection. It seems to have all gone OK although old scarring from a tricky delivery during the birth of our second daughter meant that the surgeon had to remove a little more tissue than she had anticipated.
The first 24 hours were a morphine...
Thanks to eveyone for their help to date. Good to hear from Lea as this is the chemo I will probably have. Saw the oncologist last week who said I will probably have 3 x Taxotere and then 3 x FEC. (Unless they think I have shouldn't have any more Epirubucin as I had this back in 2004, then I will have 6 x Taxotere. They will be calculating this. I have had an ECG to check my heart and will have a scan to check the pumping action of my heart too.)
Chemo starts Friday 3rd Dec with PICC line to...

We had Dad's funeral on friday, don't know how I got through it, especially as I did a reading. I think we gave Dad a good send off. It felt so final.
We've had so many lovely cards. People were given the choice of either sending flowers or donations to cancer charity. We had lots of flowers but I think we'll be surprised at how much the total of donations will be through the funeral directors.
Mum asked Dad before he died, to prove he was ok. She asked him to send her a white feather...
When my mum was first diagnosed with bowel cancer a few months ago, I thought that once the shock of it all had passed and the operation done that would be the hard part. Now she is going for chemotherapy to make sure that the cancer is completely eradicated. Now I'm not so sure which is the hard part! Like a roller coaster you get over the first hill and as you head down the other side another one looms. I'm told that while she is having chemo, not just the obvious occurs i.e. hairloss, tiredness...

Hi, I am going to see Oncologist on 10th December to discuss details of forth coming chemo treatment due to start on 15.12.10. I have noticed several members refering to fitting of Picc lines before chemo.Does anyone know if Is it standard practice to have one fitted before treatment starts and are they they painful.?
Thanks Polly. x

I haven't blogged in a while. Here's what has been going on.
My husband sought a second opinion for his terminal diagnosis of bile duct cancer from a specialist in Leicester. Our first visit to see him was at the beginning of September to discuss the latest CT scan. There was still no change from previous CT scans in the past 14 months. He sent him for an MRI scan and blood tests and said that it might not be cancer. We got the results of the MRI scan and blood tests and the doctor said that the scan...
