Family surprised me

Hi everyone, I hope you’re all doing well during this difficult time and coping with whatever stage you are at in your treatment/recovery. My family (hubby, daughter and son) have just surprised me big time. Yesterday I got a knock at the door and it was a delivery, at first I thought it was for my daughter until I saw the size of the box, it was massive and just fit in our narrow hallway. I’m standing at the door looking totally confused having no idea what this is while my family are at the end of the hall grinning from ear to ear . Anyway after some manoeuvring the box is in the living room and the contents removed. My family have only gone and bought me one of those recliner chairs that can go back far enough to let you snooze and come up to a position that helps you stand up without having to push yourself out of the chair. It’s for after my surgery so I don’t strain myself getting in and out my chair. They’ve also been working on a plan of action for when I’ve had my surgery. Hubby is going to deal with everyday stuff, son will help with taking my daughter to MS Clinic appointments should they clash with mine, and my daughter has been practicing and trying to work out ways she can get all her personal stuff done, the  things that are too embarrassing for dad to do, without me having to help. There’s me thinking that they weren’t understanding what surgery meant and how limiting mobility wise it was going to be and they go and do this. They have apparently been working on this for the past two weeks, via text message or secret conversations while I was in the shower. I’m totally stunned by it all but feeling so much more positive today and feel I’m more able to deal with whatever comes my way treatment wise. I’m also feeling a little bit chuffed and proud of my hubby and kids, isn’t it amazing what they can do when the need arises.

Have a good day everyone

Best Wishes

Angie

    Hi Abs61,

What an amazing surprise & such a lovely gift you must have been totally gob smacked ! Just goes to show when we are feeling so low & thinking people don't understand, all the time this was being planned, it totally restores our faith in others. I'm so glad to hear they are getting organised with all the other everyday stuff it will make such a difference when you come home from hospital & you can concentrate on recovering & getting better.

  • Wow , that's amazing to hear Angie. Sometimes people just surprise us, I am glad they have been so understanding and thoughtful what a lovely gift to give you. Hope you enjoy your reclining chair that should be indeed helpful after your op.

  • Oh Angie

Isn't it just fantastic when the family has pulled together like this! I'm so pleased for you.

Wish I was in the same boat/chair haha!  Had the draw the line at my supposed mobility yesterday and made a point of resting, not to the point of actually going to bed but sat down, and stayed down at every available opportunity. My friend in Spain has said come and convalesce over hear, boy, am I tempted - just the problem of the passport expired!

I bet you're grinning from ear to ear - as am I for you!

    Big hugs, Barb xx

    Morning Just 65,

I’m still trying to get my head round it, apparently they roped my sisters into the chair purchase too, now I know why my sister hasn’t phoned me, she can’t keep a secret to save herself.Smiley The chair is amazingly comfy and I reckon it could double as a bed if needed. I’m also thinking that when treatment etc is all done and dusted then a major rethink of how much I do for everyone is in order because obviously they are capable of doing a darn sight more than I let them.

    Hi GBear,

Chair very comfy, and yes they definitely surprised me, as I was saying to Just65 I now know why my sister wouldn’t talk to me, she simply can’t keep a secret. If you want to let someone know something you tell her and say it’s a secret.Smile She’s been like that her whole life. Family definitely can surprise you. I’m more relaxed now and concentrating on Friday and my upcoming CT Scan.

    Hi Mrs BGH,

Grinning so much my jaws ache Smiley. Biggest surprise ever. I now need to phone all the co-conspirators and thank them too. Families- what are they like, just when you think they’re never going to understand they turn around and totally knock you for six. I suppose all we can do is love them good, bad and infuriating as they can be.

  • Hi Abs61, what a lovely thing.  Your family have really stepped up haven't they.  It sounds like they really appreciate you and realise how important you are.

    Hi Abs61,

Yes it just goes to prove how capable they are, so from now on it's about you preparing for the surgery & afterwards which will take time & patience. So it's a slowly, slowly baby steps approach & in time you WILL get there!
