Hysterectomy - experiences with pre-existing pelvic organ prolapse and/or Arvigo Abdominal Therapy

Hi Ladies,

I'm due for total hysterectomy BSO for Complex atypical hyperplasia very soon and already have pelvic organ prolapse (POP), which causes issues with bowel emptying. I'm aware that having the op, puts me at risk of further prolapse.

Thanks so much! x

  1. Do any of you have experience with pre-existing POP before your total hysterectomy? I did tell my surgeon at pre-op that I was concerned how my POP would be affected and he said we'll have to wait and see afterwards. I'm wondering how common it is and if there's anything any of you were advised or did that helped to minimise the risk or if you have experienced no further worsening since the op?
  2. Have any of you tried Arvigo Abdominal Therapy? A friend has recommended it to me but I've never heard of it before and so would appreciate any experience of it within this forum. It is abdominal massage that aims to help scar tissue and release fascia to better support the abdominal organs. it's contra-indicated in any active cancer, so I know I would need to wait until I have the histology report after op to find out if any cancer has been confirmed and then any staging and need for further treatment discussed, etc. plus allowing scars to fully heal before considering having a session. Here's what I've found out about it from web search

  • I should say I already mentioned my POP to the physio I saw at pre-op and will ensure I get a referral to a women's physio post-op

  • Hi I was just browsing the forum before bed and noticed you haven't had any replies to your question.  I am sorry I can't be of any help as I have no experience of POP, and can't say I can remember having seen any mention of it on here, but hopefully someone will be along who can be of more help to you.

I hope you can get some more information to help you.

    Hugs, Lesley xx

  • Hi ,

i am sorry to hear about your pelvic organ prolapsed, i am sorry that I haven’t had any experience of it to be able to share anything about it other then have you posted a question here in the Ask a Nurse ? Or perhaps telephone the helpline and tgey can put you through to one of The Macmillan nurses that way. Has your CNS been able to explain all about it and of course maybe give some advice that can help you? They generally are a great source of information. Hopefully maybe one of the ladies here has had some experience to share with you.

    gentle hugs your way
