Hello there...i'm totally new to the group and am still reeling from the last few weeks.  I have so many questions.  I learned I had endometrial cancer mid November and had a radical hysterectomy on 6th December.  I'm still really tired and in some discomfort, and still struggling to sleep as it's the night time when I feel most vulnerable.  I'm not due to have my follow up appointment until 6th January and so won't get the results until then.  I'm finding it difficult to be positive and just want to get some clarity. Is it usual to wait so long for the results from the op? Any advice would be really welcome xx

  • Hi . Welcome to the group, you will get lots of advice here, everyone is very helpful.  I waited 4 weeks to get my results after my hysterectomy, so I think that's a fairly normal wait for most people, especially with the Christmas break in between.  It's still early days for you so tiredness and discomfort is normal too.  I didn't like the nights either and struggled to get comfortable as I couldn't lay on my side for quite a while, I had loads of extra pillows propped all around me to help!

    Hugs, Lesley xx

  • Hi yorkshirelassie,

my wait for results was about the same time, they have to check everything in the lab. I second the pillow advice, I used to take two ibuprofen and two paracetamol an hour before bed to help me sleep as well. To stop my mind racing I watched tv or my tablet, light programmes though, like bake off, help me sleep. Meditation videos from you tube or relaxing music with deep breathing helps too.

waiting is the worst part, my best advice is to keep as busy and distracted while you wait, I read books, booked in visitors and went out for an hour or two to pass my time.

    lots of love

    xxx

I was asked if I could be given the results by phone so I got them 10 days after my surgery when my Macmillan nurse rang me. This was then confirmed by letter. Your wait seems common by the other comments and I can imagine how the wait is awful.
