Hi everyone,
Thank you for the chance to join this group.
I had my first appointment on 13th November for a scan and had my diagnosis on 4th December. My hysterectomy was on 16th December. I am at home and I am recovering well. I have so many questions in my head and it just keeps going around and around. I still can’t quite believe the past few weeks. It all feels like a blur. I am feeling very relieved I had such wonderful and quick treatment but I feel totally lost.
Has any felt similar?
Hi mandy am a bit similar to you had hysteroscopy first were they found it told 13 November CT scan then surgery 12 th December recovered very well keyhole full hysterectomy waiting on histology results probs next week fantastic consultant said probs radiotherapy but wait for results back to mdt meeting first such a rollercoaster forget sometimes then hits you like ton of bricks again can feel exactly like you do xx
Please can you ladies tell me just how much your allowed to do after op for instance I have to step over bathto have a shower ?
Thank you
Lesley
Thank you. That’s very much how I feel. It’s just been so quick and I should be so relieved. I will hear more on 31/12.
Possibly not. First indications are good, will know after MDT on 31/12.
Hi Lesley,
I had the vaginal hysterectomy and I was allowed home the next evening.
I am recovering well. Having a shower has become a process!!! Strip off, get pj’s and underwear ready. Go for a shower. Come out and then have a little lie down before I get dressed. It takes me a while, my husband stands outside, but it’s ok. I was told to sit on the side of the bath and swing my legs over if my shower was in the bath and have someone with me. Not sure if that helps at all.
Hi mandizzle,Mandy and welcome to the group. I am glad to hear you have had swift treatment and you are at home recovering from your operation. I hope you have been able to rest and relax over the Christmas period and that you have plenty of help and support on hand as it is very important that you take it easy to allow your body to recover from the major surgery you have had. Although you may feel well it takes at least twelve weeks to recover externally and up to a year or more for your body to heal internally. I had my operation in May this year and yes, the questions do whirl around in your head. Whilst it is important to seek advice from your medical team and your specialist cancer nurse this forum is a wealth of knowledge with many ladies on this site, all ages and with different experiences and you can guarantee that there will be somebody who knows the answer to a question of knows of somebody who does. There is also the excellent Macmillan team, nurses and advisors who can assist with the more comp!ex matters. There will be many ups and downs in this journey, you will feel periods of positivity and also times when you may feel down, especially a few weeks after surgery, known as the post surgery blues. All these feelings are normal and there is always a listening ear here at any time. No questions are too stupid or personal, we have all been through it and answer honestly and to the best of our ability. I would advise against googling unless it's from a reputable site such as macmillan, nhs choices, cancer research or the eve appeal. Other information can be out of date or overexaggerated and can frighten us when we are vulnerable and feeling alone. I would advise you to ask your questions and put your mind at ease. The ladies on here helped me tremendously through my journey and the support is unconditional and such a comfort in those worrying times. Macmillan also do a range of booklets which can be found at macmillan.be which may be useful for you as well. In the meantime ask away and keep resting. Have a very merry Christmas and a happy prosperous new year. God bless love lamb.
Hi Lesley a bit the same as mandy I also had full hysterectomy keyhole and also have to step over bath for shower I waited couple days after for first shower think after I got in got out as fast but ok on next one am recovering remarkably well been out and about always with someone with me results next week the sleepless nights starting to creep in again to b expected so grateful for the advice of the ladies on this forum invaluable xx
Ty for your reply how bout getting into a car or even driving is that hard ? X
I have not tried a car yet. My oncology nurse told me I would feel every bump in the road for a good four weeks. I was advised not to drive for 2/3 weeks and certainly not whilst still taking strong pain relief. I will try sometime next week but I can’t say I’m in a hurry.
