Hi,

this evening I found a hard, thick fibrous 1cm lump in my period (caught in tissue when I wiped myself), I'm used to having blood clots, and thin uterine lining skin come out, but never have I seen anything like this before, so I'm worried.

I took a photo of it to show the GP.

Could this be a sign of uterine cancer or fibroid or anything like that? It's definitely not a miscarriage as I've not been sexually active.

Any advice?

Thanks,

Natalie

  • Hi Natalie,

Im not a medic so don't know what it could be but i know how worrying things like this can be. Try and take one step at a time, whatever it is, your doctor can hopefully clear things up for you. I had uterine cancer and I never had any hard lumps, hopefully it helps a bit to know that while you wait. Lots of people pass through the site with symptoms and get the all clear.

To check my womb and symptoms they sent me for an ultrasound scan, then an appointment with a gynaecologist and then a biopsy and finally a hysteroscopy and diagnosis.

Whatever happens we are here to wait with you, please let us know how you get on with the doctor.

    lots of love

Hi it sounds like you’re doing the right thing getting it checked out but try not to jump to any conclusions. Have you got a GP appointment soon? X

    Hi Arla and Stephy1,

thanks for your warm and thoughtful replys, I've wrapped the tissue up and am going to the GP this morning but don't know if they will have an appointment available, will try.

I've never had a lump like this before come out with my period, I've regularly had big jelly like clots, and long wide pieces of uterine skin...

In March of this year I had a laparoscopy to remove a large polyp, which ended up being benign, so I wondered if this is something similar?

I'm worried as it's hard, thick, fleshy, and has like a irregular kind of form to it that looks a bit spiraly in places...on closer look at it the colour is like bland beige inside and darker on the outside...weird. plus is smells foul...

Anyway it could just be one of those odd but ok things...

    Warmly,

    Natalie

    Update:

I went to the GP who said that the mass looks abnormal, it's not a clot or skin or foreign substance, looks 'polypous' it was put in a pot and sent to histology at the local hospital (where I work, for histology in the office! I could not bring myself to give it to the lab as I work there so my friend and colleague kindly took it in for me).

Have to say I am worried but worse case scenario is that it must have been caught early as my hysterscopy, laparoscopy and smear test in March this year only showed a polyp, which they removed and found was benign.

  • Hi,

it sounds like things will move quickly for you, hopefully you won't have to wait too long for results.

we are here while you wait whatever happens, it's definitely good news that you had a thorough check earlier this year, (the stats say that 90% of womb biopsies are clear, so hang onto that)

    lots of love
