Hi all
So it's nearly four weeks now since my operation and so far so good. Wounds have healed really nicely and I am now down to my last three injections. Hurray!!
Got an appt next Wednesday which will be nearly five weeks just wondered if anyone had a follow up appt around that time.?
Hello . How long you wait for a follow up appointment seems to vary from hospital to hospital and area to area. I had my histology results about 3 weeks after my op (that was in 2016) but from what I’ve read on here lots of ladies seem to wait 4-6 weeks. It’s a good opportunity to get checked out and to ask any questions you may have. They’ll probably outline your follow up schedule too. Great to hear you’re doing so well. Sending lots of good wishes your way x
My operation was at the beginning of May and my follow up appointment followed eight weeks later when they took me through the histology report, answered any questions I had and inspected the wound. They also told me what would happen at future checks every three months in my case for two years, then every six months for a year then yearly for the last two years but if I am worried I am able to telephone them at any time. I didn't feel as "rushed" at these appointments and was able to ask my questions without feeling I was holding the next person up. They also made sure I understood everything and didn't mind repeating information if I didn't fully understand it. I am pleased to hear you are progressing so well. Love and prayers. Lamb.xx
Hi Annie, my follow up appointment was 4 weeks after my operation. He took my keyhole stitches out as they were still there, although the ones on my other wound (I had keyhole and open surgery!) had healed. I also got my histology results.
Hope all goes well for yours.
Hugs, Lesley xx
Hi Annie, I had my follow up 5 weeks after my op. I already knew my histology report, one of the consultants specialists nurses called me about 10 days after my op to say I was stage 1A grade 1, and no more treatment was needed, which was happy news. At my appointment the consultant just asked me how I was and if my bladder and bowels were working, he didn't examine me at all. I was a bit concerned as I still had some discharge from the op but he reassured me about this. He then explained the patient initiated follow up that I am now on. About 4 weeks after this appointment I had another with a specialist nurse to exsplain the follow up plan in more detail, I contact them if I have anything worrying me for an appointment and they write to me after 6 months and then yearly for 5 years. I hope your follow up goes well.
I'm really relieved to hear that, Poppysmum27. I am two weeks post-op (keyhole) today, and my stitches are still in place. I was getting worried about that as the doctor who discharged me from hospital didn't say anything about the stitches (and silly me was so euphoric about getting home that I forgot to ask), and I'd assumed that they would maybe dissolve, but they show no signs. I've made an appointment with the nurse at my health centre (I'm in Spain) for next Monday morning to ask her to remove them if necessary, but I was concerned in case that was leaving it too long (my follow-up appointment at the hospital will be on 19th November, when I'll get my histology results). If yours could be removed after 4 weeks that makes me feel much better.
My follow up is just over 5 weeks post op. It does really seem to vary.
I notice everyone has injections for different lengths of time as well. I also had two different types of antibiotics for two weeks post surgery
Did anyone have an internal exam at this first appointment? I
Free at Last, your follow up appointment is the same day as mine!
Well best of luck, Claracat, let us hope it will be good news for both of us.
I got a prophylactic dose of antibiotics (by IV) immediately before my operation but none after that.
After I had my heart valve repair op last year, my dentist here insisted that I had a prophylactic dose of antibiotics before my annual check-up and cleaning, too. He wrote me a prescription for a full course but I only had to take two tablets a couple of hours before my appointment. He said it would be the same next year too. Strange, I'd never heard of that before.
Claracat, I didn't have an internal exam at the 4 week check up, I don't think many or any do unless there are any problems, it seems more usual to have it at the 3 month check.
