Hi Everyone ,
I had my first review CT scan with contrast and oncologist visit this Wednesday and Thursday, after all my treatment ( op, radiotherapy, chemo) was completed on 24th September. My scan was clear with no sign of disease, which was a great present for my Birthday this weekend.
My oncologist did a quick internal to reassure me ( he didn't really think needed but cos I was worried, for my peace of mind) because I have a slight vaginal discharge and blood on tissue sometimes. He says its the effects of the external radiotherapy to that area, and not unusual ( though I've not seen much mention on here). He says scan result shows nothing of concern, nor could he feel anything of concern, should go in due course.
So, from now on 3 monthly examinations, which he said will alternate between the gynae oncology surgeon at the hospital where I had my op, and himself, the oncologist. Scans will be annual unless anything of concern arises.
As a possible side effect of the chemo, or throat infection who knows, I had neck discomfort starting during my last 2 cycles of chemo. Blood tests and ultrasound confirm thyroiditis ( which goes on it's own in a few months, Drs not concerned about it).I already had an underactive thyroid and on meds for that, after having an overactive one as a child/teenager, so clearly my thyroid is a bit of a prima Donna.
I thought I'd mention these side effects on here, as I know I use the search facility if I have symptoms to see if anyone else has had them and what had upshot was.
Anyway, was very glad to get the all clear at this point from my post treatment scan. Waiting outside the oncologists office was the first time I felt really stressed during all this. After that happy news, yesterday I had a melt down for the first time over something really trivial. Suppressed anxiety coming out now I felt able to relax a bit I suppose. Hopefully got that out of my system.
Best wishes to everyone.
Hi mrs woodentop,
I'm glad to hear that your check up went well, that must be a great relief. I had a couple of meltdowns after the end of my treatment, the emotions seem to hit randomly when you least expect them.
I just had the op but I've been diagnosed with an under active thyroid after my surgery, a few folk on here seem to have thyroid issues although it could just be a coincidence, under active thyroids run in my family.
Fingers crossed that your symptoms pass quickly, I had spots of blood randomly for a while but it's settled down, I use a vaginal moisturiser called hyallo femme that my CNS arranged for me, it keeps everything really comfortable.
lots of love
