Hi everyone, I havnt posted for a while. Finished my brachytherapy mid June. I've got a lot of bowel issues. Last Saturday I developed a very tender pelvic area, hurts back and front, horrendous on going wind. Feels like internal vibrations. Top of leg hurts. Saw practice nurse as no gp appointments available. I have some peppermint capsules since Thursday. It's still very painful. Any comments would be appreciated x

Hello Rossanna, I'm so sorry that you are in so much discomfort. I  did have some pelvic pain, but I have a bad spine and hips anyway so couldn't really tell what it was to be honest. But I do think the Brachy was partly to blame, I found that putting some cold non medicated gel around my back really helped, and taking painkillers, Ibrufen worked for me. My tummy still rumbles ! but I thought that was just me, have you tried  windeeze ? lots of ladies here have said post op they have helped them, just a thought.  I do some very gentle exercise on my bed, just tilting of the pelvic area very gently, and going for a walk every day as well. You may well have tried all of these already, but they have helped me. Could you talk to your CNS? Maybe she could get you in to see your team ?

You take care, and try not to let it get you down.

  • Hello  I'm very sorry to hear that you're struggling with pain and wind. I'd second the advice from   to contact your CNS for advice. She should be able to help with suggestions for dealing with bowel issues and if necessary she can get you in to see your team, who may in turn ask for opinions from relevant specialists if they feel it's appropriate.. I hope it's something that can be sorted out quickly and easily. Please let us know how you get on x

  • Hi Rossanna,  sorry to hear that you are suffering from pain.  I'm going to echo what Little Critter and Fairycake have said, this is just the sort of thing your CNS will be able to help you with.

I can also say that I had exgternal radiotherapy and brachytherapy following my hysterectomy in May 2018 and things definitely do take a while to settle down.  For a start, the bowel and bladder seem to shuffle into their new positions after the womb and other bits have gone.  You can't see what is going on inside but there must be a lot of healing needs to happen, specially for us ladies who have had brachytherapy treatment as well.  I had bowel issues which took several months to improve and I often had strange sensations and aches and pains at times.   As your treatment finished in June, it's still quite early days.   I'm sure your CNS nurse is the person to speak to about this and I hope you will feel better and more reassured soon.

Hi Rosanna, was talking about my treatment to someone this morning, and I remembered what was said to me re Brachy and External RT. The pelvis is where the majority ? or all ? can't remember, your bone marrow is made, that's why when it starts to 'come back to life' as it were, you can experience pain. Just thought that I would let you know that if it helps at all ? My head is still a mush when it comes to some stuff re the treatment.

  • My surgery was last December and I had brachytherapy in February. I’m still having abdominal pain especially at night. I’ve had various checkups and a second CT scan in April but no real explanation about why it’s still painful other than everything takes time to heal. Keep asking
