Hi all, I've had my op. Unfortunatley post op I deteriorated and was found to have a 1.4l bleed into my abdomen. Had to go back into surgery. I've had several transfusions and other treatments.
I'm home now but feeling very emotional, I've got so many pills to take and injections to give myself, I'm getting very tearful about it all.
I've got some spectacular bruising from the bleed, we're going to take a picture every day so I can see it fading.
The hospital staff were fab, it was very scary as I could hear them talking and could see my BP failing. All the staff rushed to do what they needed to do and they all came to see me after.
I don't want to scare anyone so please anyone waiting for surgery remember that complications can happen but are not common
Hi nina, my op was also Thursday! Did you have a spinal as pain relief whilst in hospital? I did and found that worked well.
I'm allergic to codeine. I had oramorph but didn't like it and was given tramadol but decided I didn't need it any longer yesterday.
I'm now on paracetamol too. Do you think it's post op pain or trapped wind that is causing you problems?
Hope you feel better soon
I think it's both. I've not been offered any different options for pain other than back to lower dose of the codeine! At the moment I'm just in pain everywhere. Yes I did have the spinal but only for during the surgery. Didn't really help the anaesthetist telling me the pain would be awful when it wore off!!!
Oh, nina that was a rubbish thing to be told re the spinal.
Have you tried peppermint tea or windeeze to help with wind?
I know they told me mobolising was the best thing for pain, but thats easier said than done when you're in pain. Hope you start to feel better very soon.
I have wind settlers and ginger nuts! Ginger was for any nausea from anaesthetic but didn’t have any, then friend said ginger was good for wind too. I’m walking round the unit/ward several times a day. But everywhere is hurting so it’s difficult. And now I’m struggling with my eyes!! Usually wear contact lenses but obviously can’t at the moment.
BUT I was dressed when youngest and her ex boyfriend turned up unannounced this afternoon. Could have done without that stress.
Nina, do you think the hospital environment makes you feel worse?
I honestly think that being in hospital makes me feel more stressed and less rested
Well done nina on getting yourself up and dressed, remember it's tiny steps that will get you there.
I think it probably does but I really don't want to be at home where Hannah will just turn up when she chooses, and where hubby bless him hasn't really got a clue!!
Hi Nina.
I'm sorry that you are in so much pain, I walked gingerly and stopped when I felt any pulling / pain, a rest on a chair usually helped me start walking again. Don't push the walking (distance wise) too much, it's still early days, short trips to the loo or for water should be enough for now. When I got home I walked to get snacks and drinks or the loo and walked around the garden slowly after about a week. I managed around the block after about 10-12 days. Everyone goes at their own pace though so just do what you can and you will get there eventually.
Lots of love
