  • If you do a search there are lots of discussions on here about brachytherapy and the different treatments. It’s not too bad. I was stage 3 and had 3 short sessions. You need to check on the possible after effects which weren’t explained very well to me.

  • Hi Sherwood lady. I have had PDR brachetherapy which is performed as an in-patient I was 3 days total in hospital, 21 hours receiving hourly doses of radiotherapy.  Some ladies brachytherapy is given as an out patient. I had only 1 session some ladies have more.  How you are treated is dependent on your MDT team. I personally did not have the bladder and bowel effects that some ladies have had but did have fatigue. Radiotherapy is not painful and I found it doable. Take care Dawn x

  • Good Morning

I had 3 treatments of Bracatherapy after my  radiotherapy. I think everyone’s different but in my case I had to go in the morning so they could measure what they had to do then back in the afternoonJoyor the actual bracatherapy.  You have to both procedures with a full bladder and that is quite challenging Joy especially if you are a bit late being seen. In my case and I want to stress that I have a very narrow vagina and it was quite painful I did get numbing gel and some oramorth but it was still a bit stressful. Having said that the staff were so understanding and so lovely and so patient with me that made a huge difference.

    Hi

I will look at the discussions

I will hopefully remember to ask everything

  • Hi Sherwood Lady

i had 4 short sessions nearly 4 years ago and was fortunate to have no problems at the time. Two years later I had a slight bleed due to damaged blood vessels in vagina.  Had handful of slight bleeds since (nothing embarrassing just noticed when I wiped) but no other side effects.

Are you sure you were told stage 3? Brachytherapy alone is often given for high grade (ie Grade 3) early stage (ie stage 1 or 2). I am not a medic but that is what I have seen here over the years. Just wondering as would not want you to have additional worry if there has been some confusion.

    Best wishes

    xx

    Hi Ema

Have you felt ok ovef the 4 years

There as been comfusion over what staging first it was

Early then stage 2 grade 1 and no further treatment after hysterectomy now stage 3a d bracytherapy required

Not sure where i stand now

I have consultation this thurs to discuss treatment i think i will ask lots of questions

    Lynne

  • Normally, the initial biopsy can only identify the Grade of cancer,   as MRI scans can only suggest the Staging. Consultant's are usually  reluctant to confirm Staging of the cancer until the womb biopsy  and lymph node sampling results arrive and they can then confirm the  exact Stage of the cancer. This, together  with the initial Grade of cancer identified in the biopsy, determines what treatment, if any, is required in addition to the surgery.

    Hope this helps. Gxx

    Hi G

    Thanks that helps a lot

Consultant did say cancer  hasnt gone outside the womb so hoping thats a good thing

    Thank you for the info

    Regards

  • Hi Lynne. Yes I have been fortunate to feel very well over the four years.  I find trousers with front buttons and zips uncomfortable since the surgery and as I mentioned a few slight bleeds but otherwise no lasting issues.
