ive just been in hospital to stop a huge bleed and had a scan done. The lady gave me the report to give to the gyn but he received it on the computer so I took it home.

The lady doing the scan said everything looked totally normal  but the report says

irregular endometrium thickness 19mm

the cavity of the uterus is irregular and active bleeding is noted.

Now I’m not sure but that doesn’t sound totally normal to me. My follow up is 1st August

can anyone tell me if that is normal and I’m just being a worry wart.

  • Hello Rubyred77, welcome! It sounds like you've had a difficult time recently with the huge bleed and hospital stay. I hope things are better for you now and that the bleeding has stopped (or is at least under control.)

I'm not a medic so can't comment on what may or may not be normal. I do know that the womb lining can vary in thickness depending on where you are in your menstrual cycle. It might help to ask your Gp for an appointment to discuss the report. Or maybe you could try ringing the Macmillan helpline on 0808 808 0000 (7 days a week, 8-8) and ask to speak to one of the nurses. She can't diagnose because she can't see your medical notes but she can talk through your concerns and perhaps help you to formulate the questions to ask at your follow up appointment in August. I'd just say please try not to Google if you can help it - a lot of what's on the internet is old and some of it is downright unhelpful and you can end up worrying yourself silly. If you must Google (we all do sometimes) stick to reputable sites like this one, the NHS or CancerUK.

Please let us know how you get on. Sending lots of good wishes and a gentle hug your way x

    Hi Rubyred

I can tell you that in my area if the womb lining is bigger than 3mm it is an automatic referral to Gynae. Where I live any suspicions are usually dealt with nder the two week rule, I had a biopsy and results within one week and listed for surgery , all in 5 weeks.

I would be asking what referral system are you under?

    Hope it goes well

    Nina

  • Hi Ruby,

im not a medic but want to let you know that lots of women pass through the site with a thick womb lining and get the all clear, so try not to worry too much and keep distracted whilst you wait.

The stats say 9 out of 10 womb biopsies are clear.

lots of love and let us know how you get on

    xxx
