I attended the hospital for a Biopsy on the 6th June, this was done by the 1st Consultant Gynaecologist (I have met 3). She then came to see me when I recovered to say she was suspicious of the biopsy. I was very groggy and so didnt really take it in. I went back to work and then eventually received an appt on the 6th June to attend for results. I was so convinced this was going to be nothing I drove there myself. There was no clinic on and the consultant came down to see me . When I went into her room my first thought was, "Oh there is no one else in here, it cant be that bad" She then looked at me and said her suspicions were confirmed, it was Endometrial Cancer, she just straight out said it. She must have done it so many times that she realised the best way to say it is just to say it straight. I went into shock and heard very little of what she said after that.
She then said she had organised scans for me the day before I saw her, and she was going on holiday next week and she would see me when she returned. I went for the CT scan as I couldn't do MRI (Claustrophobia). I was then discussed at the MDT meeting on the Thursday by a different Consultant, but I was glad as it didn't delay anything. I received another appt to go in and see the Consultant for the scan results on the 13th June. This time I took a friend with me. He told me the cancer was contained in the womb but was in the muscle of the womb. I was relieved, but still scared, so we had a discussion about the treatment options, which will be a radical hysterectomy with an abdominal wash. All will be sent to the lab for Analysis. So I left and waited for the date, but I was very anxious so I called the waiting list. I found out the hospital I wanted my surgery in had no soon slots. I was then given an appt at my local hospital (I work there!) . I took this as I dont want to delay my treatment. I now have to go back and see another Consultant who will be doing my surgery. He is a Consultant and very experienced, and it is on a waiting list initiative.
So far I have seen 2 different consultants, soon to be 3. But one thing I will say, I am totally and utterly bowled over by the speed of referral, scans and treatment. My date for surgery is 6th July. So from Biopsy, to results, to surgery 1 MONTH!!!
Hi Nina,
I'm glad for you that your diagnosis has been so quick. It does save some time worrying. I took a little longer than that, but only needed a hysterectomy and no more treatment. It really was not too bad. Are you having keyhole surgery? That's a marvellous invention.
Good luck. You'll be fine!! xxxxx

Hi Nina,
Same as me!! I was kept in hospital for two nights as my bladder refused to work properly. I also had trouble after I came home with that and went back for a check 2 days after coming out!!! It settled down, and I was fine a week afterwards, even at the age of 72!!! I had trouble with my cervix when younger. In my 20's they saw something after a smear which they didn't like and cauterised it. That resulted in two miscarriages. I eventually carried two pregnancies successfully with the babies stitched in!!
All in all, I was quite glad to see the back of it!!! xxxxx
My goodness that was quick! I'm afraid mine has been ongoing since 26th March. I had my radical hysterectomy on 4th June and I am still awaiting the results of those biopsies and still have no staging. I also don't even have an appointment date to get these results. I have never seen the same consultant twice either and have no idea who I might see next.
best of luck for your surgery, there are lots of tips on here to help you.
Take care x
Hi NannyAnny - I also had problems getting my bladder to work and almost 3 weeks post surgery it is still sore to pee (and poo but I won't go into that!). I am awaiting results of urine sample coming back, two samples sent in one apparently was dipped and was fine but they sent the other one away yesterday and I haven't heard anything. I have no idea if I have a UTI or not and if it isn't I'd love to know why peeing feels like I'm getting an electric shock!
The joys, the joys!
I'm so glad your bladder problems have settled. xx
Hi Granny A,
In hospital after the operation I couldn't feel a thing!!! I had to go to the loo by time as I read you have to retrain your bladder. Back home I spent one night up every 2 hours to pass water, but only a thimbleful came!! The day after I had a bath and as I stood up to get out urine just poured out of me. No pain, as I would have thought of cystitis which I used to get often before childbirth!! I had no control at all and was petrified. Although it was a Saturday I got husband to take me back to hospital. They tested the urine for a UTI, and said it was fine, and things were just settling down. Sure enough I gradually got feeling back. At least the back end was no problem after the first time-OOUCH!!!!
My problem was being unable to empty the bladder completely in hospital, but a very kind nurse taught me how to lift one leg up, then the other to help. After my bath incident I discovered myself that if I put a warm flannel over my bladder I seemed to pass water easier!! I think it just helped to relax everything. I think I must have been about 3 weeks messing with this until things became 'normal' again.
xxxxxx
