Hello everyone, I’ve joined on recommendation via a friend who found this a great help while going through her breast cancer, who is now cancer free so the reason I’ve popped in I’m anxious as after visiting my GP and practice nurse only 3 days ago and being told I have all the signs and red flags of endometrial cancer (sticks in my throat saying that) I have urgent appointment this Friday for scan and examination then after that see the consultant an hour later. I was wondering if they give you any information on the day or am I going to have to wait for any results and if they suggest hysterectomy because of any signs how quick do they usually act on any findings (if there are any) thank you for reading I won’t waffle to much xx
Hello ,
Welcome to the forum, although I am very sorry to hear of your current concerns. But wanted to reach out to you, It sounds like your GP is on the ball and wanting to get you checked out very quickly. Timescales do seem to vary between areas and hospitals but I know that they tend to confirm cancer by biopsy, in our case a hysteroscopy is performed with this they can have a good look round inside your utreus and can look for all kinds of things like fibroids, polyps and as my consultant who performed mine 'suspicious area'. They can take biopsy and the length of time does vary mine came back 8 days later. Its a scary time but I have to say I was more anxious not knowing the cause and just wanting to know.
Its OK to be scared about this and everyone here totally understands what your feeling right now and I know the other ladies will say hello soon their a great friendly bunch who totally calmed my fear as they totally got it. Lots with different stage and knowledge but the most important is support.
Just wanted to send you a gentle hug and best wishes for Friday.
No question is too big or small and we will do our best to answer if we can't our experts in 'ask an expert ' are fantastic

Hello
A very warm welcome to you though I’m sorry for the worries that bring you here. It’s good to hear that your friend is now cancer free and that she found the support groups here helpful.
It’s good to hear your GP is on the ball and that you have an appointment for a scan on Friday. As GBear says, the consultant will probably want you to have further tests, the most likely being a hysteroscopy where they look around inside with a camera, take a few pictures and take a biopsy of any suspicious areas. Sometimes these are done at the same visit, sometimes you might have to go back for a second procedure to have the biopsy taken. Hysteroscopy can be done while you’re awake or under general anaesthetic - if you need the latter that will be planned as another procedure. The biopsy can help to rule things in as well as out. You haven’t mentioned your symptoms but things like fibroids and polyps for example, can cause symptoms similar to those of womb cancer.
If all the tests show that you have cancer then you’ll be offered a hysterectomy. A positive to hold on to whilst you wait is that womb cancer caught early is highly treatable, with surgery often being all that’s needed.
I had my results three weeks after the hysteroscopy biopsy. Some ladies wait much longer, it varies between areas and timescales can be affected by demands on the labs. Top tips for waiting would include making a list of questions to ask the consultant on Friday. Take a notebook and pen to write things down (it can be a stressful time and easy to forget what’s said.) and take your partner or s trusted friend who can act as a second pair of ears. We say this a lot here but keeping busy and distracting your mind really can help in the run up to an appointment so bring all your coping strategies into play and keep doing all the things you enjoy. I wasn’t given any hint by the doctors that I could have cancer - the first I knew was when I was given my results in a face to face appointment.
Lots of ladies find the group a safe place to wait. If your test results are good we will celebrate with you, but if they’re not we’ll be here to support you through it. I hope all goes well on Friday. Please let us know how you get on, Sending you a gentle hug x
Many thanks for taking the time to message me even with all what everyone going through ethier themselves or a family member. Even reading posts on here I feel less anxious thank you all x I will pop back after Friday hopefully knowing a little more x
Hi Angeaki3,
My first investigation was a scan , and they told me straight away what they saw and thought, but I'd say go for a hysteroscopy after that, unless they say from you scan there us definitely no need no need, as it's the biopsy from that which gives a more accurate answer, and it's better to play it safe.
Back ages ago I had a scan and they could see it was fibroids ( which are benign) which was therefore the only diagnostic test I needed. As I was in my 20s and wanted children , I had an op to remove the fibroids. It worked, I have 3 children.
Hope it all goes well tomorrow x
Thank you ladies well I have had my scan this morning followed by camera as I have a tilted uterus, had an examination with consultant with another camera and a few biopsy’s taken (forget what it’s called slight discomfort but bearable) apparently I have thickening of the cervix normal is 4.5mm or 4 mine is 5mm so said needs investigation as to why, also have an ectopy in the outside of cervix usually found in expectant ladies (no chance of that, give me an extra roast potato on my plate) So now it’s a waiting game hopefully not to long nurse said 2 weeks consultant said a week. I feel better now something being done and the ball is rolling not sure on next step or if they do anything about thickening of the cervix sure biopsies will tell all xx thank you all again xx
Well they definitely seem to have had a good look and tests , I know you have mixed times for results but it does vary but hopefully they will not have you waiting too long. I have to say waiting is the pits but sounds like they want to cover all possibility with whats the cause. Once they know that its one step towards helping you. Good luck with your results I have my fingers crossed you will not have to wait too long.
