Hello everyone,
Following prolonged and heavy bleeding I was refered to the hospital and discovered via internal ultrasound that I needed polyps removing, that procedure was completed and everything was OK..... Fast forward to now (8 years later) I'm 42 and I have the worst pelvic pain with a burning pressure feeling, and prolonged and heavy bleeding I was sent for a scan again they said everything looked normal, a womb biopsy also looks normal... Then I was sent to hysteroscopy where after 3 seconds of looking I had 3 huge polyps and lots of small and medium ones. Straight away I was told I would need surgery under general anesthetic in weeks rather than months to remove them and I had my pre-op there and then, my op is 28th May. I'm confused as I never had this pelvic pain last time or this sense of urgency. Although I am pleased its being dealt with. I keep being told that polyps in the womb are very rarely cancerous but I'm curious to hear from anybody who DID or Does hace womb cancer found through polyps because I would like to know if and what the next few steps would be...
Thank you xxxxx
Heya,
My polyps were cancerous, and the rest of my lining was atypical hyperplasia which is what happens before it becomes cancerous. (Not all atypical hyperplasia becomes cancerous, that's just the steps)
I was in my mid 30's when diagnosed, so I was offered hormone suppression for the cancer, or a full hysterectomy. I chose the hormone suppression, because I could give it a shot and if it didn't work then I could still opt for the hysterectomy. With your age being 42 I don't know if they'd offer you the hormone suppression - it's a Mirena Coil fitted in the womb and then oral progesterone tablets taken twice a day - but it's definitely worth asking the question should it come to it.
Good luck with your op!

Thank you for your reply Lass,
My gp and the original gynaecologist I saw steered more towards a hysterectomy (which is fine by me) but the gynaecologist I'm with now says he wou prefer me to avoid it. I just want this pressure to go away!! I've never had this before but it's sickening and constant xxxxx
Well, if they find cancer then it's def one or the other. So if you're ok with the hysterectomy and the after effects of it - like surgically induced menopause, and possible bone issues when you're older due to early menopause - then absolutely go for it!
However, hopefully they won't find cancer and the myosure procedure, or whichever procedure they're doing to remove the polyps, will get rid of that nasty feeling you're having. You could always ask, if there's no cancer, if it's worth inserting the coil to stop it from happening again and growing back, as this isn't the first time you've had polyps and such.
