Hello all. A couple of days ago I posted on here regarding my mother's recent diagnosis for cancer in the lining of the womb. We were informed that the next step was an MRI scan, but have just recieved a call saying she needs a CT scan on her chest.
So far as I'm aware, the consultant is working off the initial biopsy sample taken from the uterus. I realise that CT scans are undertaken to see if the cancer has spread, but why would thay do this before the MRI? My mother has had no symptoms relating to her chest area.
Thank you.
Hi RobeH,
i cant remember what order I had my ct scan and MRI scans before the op. Both give the doctors good pictures and information which help to inform their procedures and diagnosis. Some things show up better on a ct scan than an MRI and vice verse. I had a ct scan on chest/abdomen/pelvis areas to check whether the cancer had spread, even though I hadn't had any symptoms. It sounds like your Mums team are being thorough and that's definitely a good thing.mHope all goes well x
Just as an additional note, different hospitals and consultants can also do things differently to one another too. Some prefer MRI, some prefer CT scans.
So you may find that the CT happens instead of the MRI. Or it may happen as well as. There's not really any hard and fast rules around it all.

Hi Robeh,
The chest xray is routine. I had a chest xray, abdominal CT, full body ct, abdominal Mri and a PET scan and have subsequently had numerous ct and mri scans! The Mri and ct look for different things, one is more about generally looking at the organs, the other is more specific, it looks at cells, bones, etc. There is no real order to things, I would imagine its just whichever is available first, in most areas that's the ct scan. They are all just so they can get an accurate picture of what's happening and it's nothing to worry about.
I hope all goes well

Hi RobeH,if it's any help i had my MRI scan first, then was called a few days later to come in to discuss and told i needed a CT scan same day as they had found a suspicious mass. The CT scan I was told showed the mass in more detail. So as Lass said they do show different things. I've just been for my pre op assessment today as waiting to have a hysterectomy with ovaries and tubes removed so hopefully that won't be long now. I hope you get some information soon 're your mum because waiting around is not fun. As the ladies recommend on this site try not to worry as it doesn't do you any good and changes nothing g and try to keep yourself distracted by hobbies or cleaning of gardening or even a nice trip out followed by coffee. Hope everybody enjoyed the nice weather over the Easter break . Best wishes. God bless you. Xx
Hi RobeH,
I've been following your mums tale, but haven't had a minute to answer with 2 grand children here!!
I had both kinds of scan on the same day, which was handy!! My CT scan picked up a potential thyroid problem, of which I was totally unaware!! That proved to be OK for now, so don't be surprised if your Mum is referred for something else!! Its like having an MOT!!!
I had the hysterectomy at 72 years old, after 2 very small bleeds and no other symptoms. I had keyhole surgery - a marvellous invention, and I recovered well.
Wishing her all the best xxxx
