Hey ladies
I’m not sure if any of you remember me from last year but I had complex hyperplasia which was treated with a mirena coil for 14 months. I had 2 clear biopsies so had the mirena removed in October 2018 so my partner and I could start trying for a baby.
Fast forward to now and I haven’t had a single period since it was removed (apart from 3 days withdrawal bleed). I left it 3 months before calling my GP and requesting an ultrasound which I was initially refused until I said I was trying to conceive.
I had the ultrasound 10 days ago and it showed my uterus was very thickened (17mm) and extremely cystic. Given my history I was told to go back to my GP and get referred to gynaecology again. I did this and they’ve sent me down the quick 2 week cancer route again and I have an appointment this Thursday (11th).
I am terrified the hyperplasia has returned, or never fully went away and has had 6 months to grow and spread. I’m worried it’s now atypical which largely raises the chance of it turning cancerous. Most of all, I’m terrified I won’t be able to have children.
I am only 25 and I’m really struggling. I know on Thursday they will say I need another biopsy. I can deal with that (I’ve had 3 already all under GA). It’s the waiting and wondering and the thinking of the future. What if they say I need a hysterectomy?
Thank you in advance for any responses. Sending good vibes to all you wonderful ladies xx
Hi Meg,
I remember you, because I had similar problems at about the same age. I came off the pill, which was pretty new then, and didn't have a period for 3 months. No tests in those days (at least you haven't got that worry). The doctor thought I was pregnant, -in actual fact it was a period. When I had another one a month later he said I had miscarried!!!!! I changed doctors, and really did become pregnant, but lost that at 20 weeks. When they examined it the dates didn't match the size. I was supposed to be 21 weeks where as the foetus was only 17 weeks. I think my body was still getting over being on the pill because I was usually very regular. So, it must have been about 9 months after being on the pill that my body was back to normal.
I wonder if the coil affects some people in a similar way? I do hope you are wrong in your assumptions. At least they are investigating you. All the best xxxx
Hi
I am so sorry you are on this rollercoaster. It must be so hard to be longing to start a family and have all this worry.
I can’t advise about the medical side as frankly I’ve no idea. All I can say is thank goodness you’re on a rapid pathway - it doesn’t necessarily mean you have cancer or that the hyperplasia is back or pre cancerous. It just means your GP can tick enough red flag boxes to get you seen soonest.
In my experience, it often works to write down your history. Keep it simple with bullet points and dates. It’s easier for your gynaecologist to take in the information and for you to be sure you’ve forgotten nothing. Write down your questions too and take someone with you to the gynae appointment.
Good luck!

Hi NannyAnny
Thanks for replying to me! Sounds like you went through a lot! I am glad there is so much more they can do medically nowadays! After the second clear biopsy my womb had gone down to normal (around 4/5mm). Now back up to 17mm.
Thank you for your kind words! Xxx
Hi Daloni
Thank you for your kind words. It worries me that I’m being rushed but I’m also glad of it. It’s good I’ll have answers sooner!
My partner and mum will be coming with me. Both my parents had medical careers so their input is handy to have! Me and my mum have a list of questions to take. I know not much will happen on Thursday aside from an examination and then probably told to have a biopsy.
Thank you for the luck!
Xxx
Hello Meg,
Of course we remember you. I’m so sorry to read you have these worries again but it’s goid to hear that you’ve been fast tracked - and as Daloni says that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s worst case scenario. I’m not a medic, neither have I been in your position, so I can’t offer any advice. Instead as a Mum of grown up girls I’m sending you a gentle, sympathetic hug and lots of good wishes that all goes well. Please let us know how you get on x
Hi Fairycake
Thank you for your caring words!
I had my appointment today. I’ve been referred urgently to have a biopsy under GA which will hopefully be in the next few weeks (fingers crossed).
He said if the hyperplasia has returned, treatment will be the mirena again. They’ll put one in whilst doing the biopsy. Not looking forward to the 3 week result wait!!
if it’s not hyperplasia and providing it’s nothing else sinister, I can be referred to a fertility clinic to concentrate on conceiving. Ironically, he said the high progesterone levels you have whilst being pregnant will actually help the state of my womb.
So now I’m just waiting for a surgery date! Xx
Hi Meg,
Its interesting what you say about being pregnant helping the state of your womb.
My eldest daughter stopped having periods at age 17. I was worried and wanted to get her sorted out before she wanted children. They discovered a benign growth on her pituitary gland. She was put on tablets which made her periods start again. She was on the tablets until she had a child aged 40!! Since then, her periods have been normal and she hasn't needed the tablets!! So, her body seems to have sorted itself out!!
She also had trouble conceiving (age and only one ovary). They did a womb scrape on her and was told they didn't know why, but that often helped people get pregnant within 6 months. She was pregnant after 2!
I really hope they can sort you out in the best possible way. xxxxxx
