Worried about Sarcoma - Lump in Thigh

Hey everyone,

I'm new to the site and have to say I've found it really helpful.  I'm 33, female, and not diagnosed with anything but just starting out with some tests to see what's going on.  The internet is great for information, but I'm starting to freak myself out more than I already was.

About 3 months ago I noticed a hard lump on my upper-mid thigh (right leg). I noticed it while rubbing lotion on my skin. It is deep down IN my thigh, not up top on the skin's surface and isn't a dome above my skin or anything visible to the naked eye. I have to press down to feel it. It's hard like a marble and doesn't move around when I touch it. I know my body well and this was definitely very new. I decided to wait and see if it would go away, but it didn't.  Then, I started having a dull aching pain in that part of my thigh that comes and goes. In the last week it is happening more and now my right knee feels achy too which is odd because I'm not doing anything out of the ordinary.  I finally made an appointment with my PCP (who is also an internist) and saw her last Friday. On top of the lump, I have been feeling really off the last 2 weeks as well.  She examined me and flat out said she doesn't think it is a lipoma and asked me a lot of questions about the pain that started to occur and whether I thought the lump grew in size. I have tried to keep track of whether it grew, but definitely know it isn't get smaller. It MAY have gotten slightly larger, but not anything astronomical. It's the size of 1 or 2 peas. All one solid mass.

She is having me get an ultrasound (happening this Thursday) and she also did some blood tests. I'm meeting with her next Wednesday to go over the ultrasound and stuff since she will have the report them. She said the ultrasound will let us know if its a cyst or hard mass, and then we will go from there. She said it is "probably nothing" but needs to take a better look.

My father died of colon cancer a few years ago and my mother was diagnosed with thyroid cancer just this last Christmas. Naturally, I am worried about this being cancerous. I am getting married in 3 months and it is all a little nerve-racking. I know there are lots of benign tumors and cysts out there, but I can't help but be really anxious.

Should I be worried? Or am I getting anxious for no reason?

My lung cancer was not sarcoma related. It was a carcinoid and I had lower lobe of my left lung removed.  I was checked for 8years and given all clear.   Now I have a sarcoma- random hey!  Emotionally I’m struggling but I’m determined to not let it take over my life.

    Much love to you xx

Dude - honestly just go get it checked out. You'll feel a million times better.

So I had THREE lump stories.

First was  lump on my balls. Went in to a urologist and he said 'meh - doesn't feel shitty, but lets do an ultrasound to be sure' which still made me nervous. Got the ultra sound and this huge black dude was ultrasounding my balls (I'm a pasty white irish guy so talk about inferiority complex) and the doctor came in in TWO MINUTES and was like 'yeah you can get out of here, spermatoceil, stop letting your friends hit you in the nards when you're drunk.'

    Whew.

Second one - hard, odd shaped lump in my right thigh. Still can feel it PLAIN as day today. I can pick it up, move it around - went to a doctor - she literally diagnosed it in 20 seconds and said 'yeah lipoma, you're good. I can get tests if you want, it might get incomfortable as you get older, but you're good. I get 10 of these a day'

    So good there.

THIRD lump in left thigh up high, smooth and kinda flat and round - It was another lipoma.

GET IT CHECKED. Always be safe. Just understand that 95% of goofy lumps down there are just nothing to give a crap about. Honest to god. You'll be good. Check it to be sure - but you should be fine. Lumps happen especially if you have an affinity for beer, fatty foods, etc.

  •  you made me smile. When I found a lump on a testicle (or did I it seemed a bit shy) went to GP who agreed there was something there (huge sigh of relief it was not just my imagination) got sent for ultrasound - two nice young ladies running the machine over my testes - hardly knew which way to look - turned out to be just a cyst. It grows and shrinks and helpfully combined with my then undiagnosed  benign enlarged prostrate to give me epidimitis attacks (think the worst football injury ever but it does not stop). After another group of lady doctors got to investigate my testes (are there seriously no male doctors available) finally got the prostrate diagnosed and treated and now only get told "do you know you have a large cyst" when I get examined - yes you told me about it last time!

Ho hum life goes on even if sometimes I rattle with the collection of tablets and it is not even me with the cancer!

    <<hugs>>

Hi all! I’m finding this post in a very similar scenario as the original poster. I’m a 32 yo female with a hard lump in my right thigh. My leg began feeling different about a year ago but I imagined it was due to falling asleep repeatedly in the same position in my baby’s rocker and possibly having tight muscles from that. I began to develop strange symptoms in my right thigh which led to worries of a potential blood clot developing. I’m pregnant again and at my appt this week with my OB, I decided to mention my leg symptoms: Charley horse pain in right calf, warmth radiating from the spot with some discoloration, and periodic tingling in my right foot, and (more recently) noticing a hard lump in my right thigh. She felt around my leg and seemed more concerned with the lump than my initial concern of the potential blood clot. I’ll have an ultrasound this Thursday and of course, naturally, I find myself worrying at night about the potential issues. I guess it’s not so much worry yet as it is curiousity. For example, wondering things like what limitations on testing and treatment will be since I’m pregnant... Anyway, it was comforting to find this group and repeatedly read how rare sarcoma is. I guess my ultrasound will have two purposes: to check the veins in my right leg and to check the lump out. I believe I read in an earlier post in the thread that the ultrasound will show if the lump is a cyst or a mass?

Family history is not exactly on my side for either thing.. my mom has been battling breast cancer since 2002, which progressed to stage 4 in 2014. And I have two family members that have died from annueryisms- which I think are from blood clots? However, I’ve learned through my mom’s battle with cancer that statistics mean nothing to the individual. According to the numbers she should be deceased, but she’s alive, well, and her cancer is being kept completely at bay! Praise God for that!

I really need to know what happened to you! I'm worried about myself right now with a similar situation. I've had fatigue and muscle weakness for the last few years. Slightly elevated liver enzymes for the last several blood tests. I just switched doctors and actually got this one to check in on those elevated liver tests with an ultrasound. The ultrasound has shown either fatty liver or some cirrhosis. It was unclear so I just did more extensive lab work and an MRE today. In the meantime, about a month ago my left eyeball began twitching and it does this every afternoon until I go to sleep...every day. Probably due to fatigue, but around the same time I noticed a large lump, about the size of a large "shooter" marble. It kind of weirded me out so I began using my foam roller to try and roll it out. it sort of dissipated some, but was still there. It feels as if it is palpable again. I've had a very dull ache in my knee on that leg the whole time as well. At night it has been like I have "restless leg" but mostly restless knee... and a very light ache in the lump itself.  I'm just worried now. I've had two benign cysts removed in my pituitary gland and thyroid in the past. A polyp in my ovary right now. so it's likely just... another nothing to worry about thing. who knows. I feel weird bringing it up to my doctor. like a hypochondriac while all this other stuff is going on. I never join in. Sarcomas seem rare and the fact that 30 mins of squishing on it made it feel a little smaller probably doesn't sound like anything to anyone, right?
