Is my lump Sarcoma?

I Found a hard lump in my left thigh around Christmas time. Went to the GP in Feb and she said probably nothing to worry about but referred for an ultrasound scan.
Had the scan this week and they sent me straight for an MRI as it was a definite mass around 3cm in my thigh muscle.
The report came back and GP called. Report said the mass seems to have its own blood supply and is of concern and a biopsy is recommended. I have my biopsy next week.
I’m 38, fit and healthy play semi- professional sport and have two small children. I did the worst thing and Googled and what came up has made me think I have a Sarcoma.
Just looking for support during this difficult time. Anyone out there with some positive outcomes would really help or just any support at all. Everytime I look at my children I just cry! Last week, everything was ok and now I don’t know what the future holds.

Thank you xx

  • Hi

Here's a few for you, these may not all be relevant  to you. Always remember to write things down before you go in because you will forget things and take someone with you if possible because anything they say to you, that you don't take in they probably will.

Can you explain my diagnosis in more detail?

What are the goals of my treatment?

What are the potential risks and benefits of each treatment option?

How will this treatment affect my quality of life?

Are there any clinical trials I may be eligible for?

What support services are available to me during treatment?

How will we know if the treatment is working?

What are the long-term effects of my treatment, and how will they be managed?

What is the plan for follow-up care after treatment ends?

    Hope this helps

    Lisa xx

  • Hopefully you will find out it's not sarcoma but if it is you might use those questions, please keep in touch and let me know what happens xx

  • DDchops thank you that really is helpful I had no clue what kind of thing to ask now I have something at least lol

  • You're welcome. Everything is crossed you don't need to use them. Keep positive xx

  • Hi Roadrunner, I hope you don't mind me asking but you had a sarcoma on your left arm was it in the upper arm?  If so do you mind sharing how it felt. I have a hard lump left upper arm and arm aches in that area as well as shoulder pain.  Waiting for my ultrasound but after googling the only thing that comes up is a sarcoma.  I'm getting myself mentally prepared for the worst and if I'm wrong it a bonus!!

  • Mine was mistaken for a lipoma a fatty cyst for nine months. Your team are at least investigating the lump properly.

Mine was a hard lump in the back of the upper arm in felt round nothing else to describe I had no pain at all from it .

Unfortunately they continued to believe it was a lipoma which they tried to remove under local anaesthetic which was a disaster.
The Sarcoma was diagnosed from that point on I have had tremendous treatment with the  complete removal of the tumour which happened in April 2023.

    I am cancer free

Hope this helps apparently a doctor will perhaps have a sarcoma in their surgery once in their career we are very rare people.

  • Hey a wee update I had my ultrasound today the doc is now going to refer me to the breast clinic coz there is a lump they can see in my lymp node that's in my arm and that's all they said so I don't know what that means or how long I will have to wait again to see the breast clinic. But I'm guessing it's prob not going to be gd news.

  • Hi Roadrunner, thank you for your description that is exactly what my lump feels like, but it's making my arm ache which I assume is due to it pressing on a nerve or something.  Fantastic news that you are now cancer free - xx

  • Sorry to hear that, I hope you dont have to wait too long.

  • Yea I hope the wait isn't long I just want to know what I'm going to be getting into and what to expect now. Before I knew what I was looking at like I cud guess what cancer it was coz it was cervical but this time I have no clue what's going on feel very out of my depth and just know clue what is coming next or even what will happen at the breast clinic.
