Hi All, I had a BCC excised  from the bridge of my nose using a graft from my right clavicle yesterday at East Grinstead. I am on low dose aspirin as my arteries cause problems and I have stents etc. So I knew the I would bleed more than someone not on blood thinners. The op was totally pain free and I managed to sleep pretty much sitting up last night as instructed. The dressings on my nose are now dark brown from blood  through the dressing, though it is not oozing blood anywhere. Is this normal or should I worry? I have not nor will I  get the site wet and am due to go back next Wednesday to check the graft. Is it safe enough to wait for that appointment as long as there is no oozing please. Thank

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently had to have a BCC removed. I haven't had this myself but I'm going to tag as I believe she has and I noticed that she's around this afternoon. Hopefully she'll be able to share her experience with you.

I'm afraid that as none of us are medically trained, we can't advise you whether to wait for your appointment or not. If you're concerned, then please give your hospital team a quick call to see if they want to see you or not.

  • Hi freespiirit45918,

I had a BCC excised from my nose by MOHS last fall and I too bled through the bandage. On day 2 I called the surgeon's office and was advised how to change the dressing. I think this may be fairly common to see blood coming through the bandage after excision. I didn't have grafting right away so I can't speak as to that but I would probably call and see how they want you to handle this. After my reconstruction with forehead flap, I was not allowed to remove the blood soaked pressure bandage for two days. Again, I called and it was very reassuring. Good luck to you.

Thanks Teddi, I will wait to see if any further blood coming through and will call tomorrow just to reassure myself. I knew taking the blood thinners would cause some complication.
