Sore a week later - is this normal?

Hi all,

I had a BCC removed from the side of my face, near my right ear, back in October.

It was discovered to be infiltrating, and they’d not got all of it out, so I had it done again last Friday (a week ago). The scar is now a little longer than it was first time.

The local anaesthetics were very painful and they said that was normal as it’s a very sensitive area. First time round I didn’t really have any significant pain in/around the scar after the operation. This time it’s still significantly painful a week later, though. I had my stitches out this morning, and it’s looking good and definitely not infected, but the right side of my face is very sore and I seem to have a permanent headache.

I’m just wondering whether this is usual? I suppose it might be, because the scar is now a couple of inches long (vertical), and the surgeon did explain that there are facial nerves around there, but I’d feel a little easier if I heard from somebody who’d maybe had a similar experience. Or not!

Anything you can share would be gratefully received.

  • Hi BikePiglet,

I had a BCC removed a year ago from just in front of my right ear too. It took about a month for the pain to fully go away. It may take a bit longer in your case as you have had two operations in the same area.

However, I didn't have a permanent headache. You may be sleeping less well and this is causing the headache but if it persists I would suggest you see your GP. I have had several BCC surgeries on my face and usually do feel a bit woolly headed for several days afterwards and need to avoid creating too many 'vibrations' in my head. My head is not comfortable but I wouldn't call it a headache.

I hope this helps. Take care

    Miranda

    Hi BikePiglet,

I had a headache after, it slowly decreased but lasted around 10 days. My GP said that it was basically caused by everything being pulled around so much and the excision putting the scalp under tension. He said as long as it improves over time it is nothing to worry about.
