And how long can you live with advanced prostate cancer?
Hi
As regards the first question once you get prostate cancer it is very slow growing, it can take some time before it is in an advanced stage no one can realy tell you how long that will take.
The second question, there are some realy brilliant drugs on the market that keeps us going, I have advanced PC diagnosed three years ago had a PSA of 893 and a Gleason 9/10 I have bone mets in various places but after 6 sessions of chemotherapy ( docetaxel ) and 20 sessions of radiotherapy and now on prostap hormone injections for life. So in answer I am still here and intend to be for a while yet.
Hope this answers some of your queries
Joe
It varies considerably. I was diagnosed 6 years ago, psa 205 gleason score 9 and mets to lower back and rib. I've been on hormone treatment and a drug called Arbiraterone all that time and so far psa is near enough zero. Medication has a number of side effects but nothing I cant cope with. Probably I'm lucky though.
Best of luck in your journey.
Hi,
I was diagnosed with advanced PC in February (Valentines Day!!) - limited spread to pelvic area.
I had PSA of 24, Gleason 9 and am half way through my 6 cycles of Chemo (docetaxel)… my consultant is planning to start me on radiotherapy in the summer once I have finished my chemo.
As is usual when you see a consultant not everything he says sinks in - my wife thinks he said the radiotherapy would be weekly but I cannot remember hearing this and I assumed that radio therapy was daily (Mon to Fri) for a few weeks. I know each of us different but I'm curious what radiotherapy you received?
I will find out for definite when I next see him but grateful for any info you can provide.
Thanks
Kevin
I Have not started chemotherapy nor radiotherapy at the moment am still doing X-RAYS.
Thanks to God for you. For me am still doing X-RAYS.
I just started June 16 2020 and have 5 more infusions every 3 weeks. I got thru the first infusion and really just noticed nauseous and dizziness and tired. I have been in Lupron-2012, casodex, enzalutamide, Xgeva and originally radiation in 2010. PSA was 2.8 with a Gleason 3/4= 7. Long road and still waiting for cure. I still have albiterone left after chemo.
Take life day by day and be grateful for the little things. Don’t get caught up in what you can’t control. Accept it and make the best of it. When you stop worrying about what you can’t control, you have more time to change the things you can control. And that changes everything in the long run.
