It’s been 18 months since my non-nerve sparing prostatectomy. The next stage is to deal with achieving an erection to sustain intercourse. My appointed specialist is o. Long term sick, so drugs are on “hold”. Meanwhile, can anyone out there recommend a vacuum pump they have confidence in? It seems a nightmare of dealers out there who give no confidence, and I don’t want to buy rubbish. You help would be a blessing…
Also, can anyone comment on effectiveness of Alprostadil and injections, please? Indeed, anything that works after non-nerve-sparing surgery.
thanks in anticipation.
Hi Chris,
I can’t help you on this one, but I’ve replied to the question to bump you back up the list. It’s unusual for nobody to answer your original question, so I’m sure someone will be along shortly. AW
If this doesn’t result in an answer, try putting the question in the “diagnosis “ or “newbie” section…
Have you tried to get one on the NHS? You might find this link helpful.
Hello Chris1954 .
A very informative link on experiences.

Hi, I'm six weeks post op and had non nerve sparing surgery. I was prescribed the Somerect vacuum pump on the NHS which I started using two days ago plus I started taking Viagra as prescribed. So on first day of using the pump I could get about two and a half inches of penis size and by day three I'm back to normal size but only three quarters of a way to normal erection. Plus when not using the pump my penis is looking a bit more like normal. As a trial I tried two different constriction rings (yes with only a semi on) and found it uncomfortable but I'm really looking for guidance on best practice of ring usage.
As I've made such fast progress me and the wife are planning to try intercourse in the three days from now.
My plan is to get the injections ASAP when I see the ED nurse.
Anyway, I would recommend a vacuum pump to get the penis back to health, then when ready try the rings.
Injections seem a better option- if your in the UK you get them on the NHS plus you can buy them online if you can afford them- about £30 each online. Google Caverject.
Feel free to ask any more questions.
Thank you for sharing, William. I am on same trajectory, but yet to try anything due to having to go down the road of an artificial urinary sphincter first. That resolved, my ED nurse is on long term sick so I am behind the curve. Interesting about the pump. Please share more as you learn. I too want the injections, but I heard the cream has a limited success too. I would be interested if you or anyone else on the forum has any experience of the effectiveness/dose of the Alprostadil cream. All is not lost, but it does seem like it….
Your welcome Chris.
Because I was told to take two 50mg of viagra twice per week it creates a spike in effectiveness. So when I use the pump on the day of viagra use it provides a better erection.
Anyway good luck and I'll post again when I have some news.
