Hi. I am 49 and just looking for some advice really and maybe someone to talk to.
So, for the last 12 months or so my issue I thought was irregular bowl movements, ie constipated for 10-14 days then horrendous diarrhoea which just wiped me out and caught me out many times whilst at work.
after several blood tests and visits to the gp, I was sent for an urgent colonoscopy, this could not be completed due to the excruciating pain whilst performing and the consultant had to stop and ordered a CT colonoscopy instead.
I thought this would be just a routine scan but didn’t realise that your bowl still has to be empty and then expanded with air, omg the pain when this was done was worse than childbirth and although I persevered whilst they got the images I was then stuck on the hospital bed for over an hour until I could move. The pain was on my right side and although they detected nothing, no cancer or cactus from the images I still have the pain.
I was referred back to my GP who seems to think it is IBS but I have so many symptoms that tell me it could be something else but then I tell myself that if it was anything else this would have been picked up on the CT scan surely. Due to go back to the consultant in May.
Since this my bowl movements seem to have gotten much better but still not right. I have hideous bloating, to the point that I look pregnant (I am a size 10) and even after eating small amounts of food I feel full and have to undo my jeans button. I have also had terrible periods, irregular, some small amounts of bleeding in between really heavy 10 day ones, along with pain around the ovary area.
I have felt nauseous and can be really tired, to the point I will fall asleep as soon as I get home from work or have to have a cat nap through the day when I’m off.
most recently I had like what can only be described as someone shoving a lightening bolt up my vagina and hitting me with 1000 volts, needless to say this had me dancing round the room until it ended.
I have also noticed a lot more back pain, I do have history with back pain but sometimes lately I can’t even sit without feeling pain.
Ive made another appointment to see my GP but as everyone knows it sometimes feels like your waiting forever to get in and then a quick 10 minute appointment isn’t long enough to explain how you feel and all your symptoms.
sorry for goin on but just wanted a few words of advice.
Thanks xx
Hi, sorry to hear that you have had a rough time. I would insist on an urgent GP appointment and then ask for a blood test. My only symptom was bloating, but my lady GP ordered a blood test the same day. A few days later, an ultrasound and internal ultrasound, plus CT scan confirmed my diagnosis. Hope this helps. Regards Jan.
Thanks Jan, I am gonna ask if the blood tests I have already had include the CA125 and if the Ct scan I had for my bowl would pick anything else up. I think we have a great intuition when we know somethings not right.
