Hi, i am 61 and was diagnosed with stage 4b high grade serous ovarian mid October - only symptom was a vrry large pleural effusion around my right lung. That took over 5 days of draining in hospital.
Ct showed lymph node at left clavicle, a small cluster of lymph nodes mid chest and a few nodules on omentum also. My belly button popped up with a nodule too (quite weird). I have some fluid in abdomen but dr's havent drained this and dont seem concerned about it.
Ironically I was in the best health and fittest I had been before this (doing light weight resistance twice a week as well as walking) i have no underlying issues, am on no meds, even now, apart from chemo.
Initially I was being told 3 cycles of chemo then full hysterectomy was the option and I was aiming for that. Just before 3rd chemo my oncologist announced that she didn't think the surgery was a good option and I would have better life quality for up to 3 years without having to get over such radical surgery with all the high risks of serious infection. I hadnt even had my mid treatment CT - so this was a blow.. Understandably feeling deflated now - I had been so positive before and they had been encouraging that telling me I was coming from a really high base of good health compared to most patients she gets
I have the CT tomorrow, then am booked in for cycle 4 on Tuesday next. Had also had a reaction to paclitaxel cycle 2 and 3 so my treatment is to change next week and cycle 3 was only carbo as they couldnt administer the taxel - wee bit wary now that treatment isnt even working
You could seek a second opinion about the surgery, you are entitled to. On another OC forum HealthUnlocked My Ovacome, run by the Ovacome charity, this is a frequent topic. There is a female surgeon based at a London hospital who takes on complex cases. Or at the very least reviews the decision to say no surgery.
