Chemotherapy recovery

I had surgery late last August for stage 2 ovarian cancer and began chemotherapy (carboplatin) end of October. I completed only four out of the planned six cycles because physically I couldn’t continue. My final treatment was early January. Two months later I still have fatigue, brain fog and mixed emotions. I’ve been walking for exercise, though I’m still experiencing pain from the radical hysterectomy. I have an appointment with my oncologist on April 15th to find out whether I’m in remission. Some days feel manageable, others much harder. I expected to have recovered more by now.

  • Everyone seems to recover at a different pace.  Their own pace.  I’ve just finished my second course of chemo and have terrible fatigue.  But I had fatigue all through my year of remission anyway.  Hopefully it will go.  Every day is a new day and I’m hopeful.  Good luck & be hopeful!

  • So true. I have one chemo left of 6, my second round. Fatigue is certainly a challenge. At the moment I find I’m struggling with my identity!! Lack of confidence, weight gain no hair. Who is this person? Would I do a third round of chemo?? I don’t know!? Trying to keep a positive mental attitude but it’s hard. Good luck everyone. X

  • I agree with every one of your words!  You are not alone!  Except I'm underweight and having trouble forcing myself to eat since I'm not hungry and all food tastes like bilge!   But for me the fatigue is the worst.  And gnawing worry about I have no idea what!  We will get better though and knowing I am not alone in this fight makes a real difference.  x
