Can we discuss eyebrows, eyelashes and hair?

I am about to have my 5th lot of chemo second time around.  The first course of chemo included Avastin so I had the cold cap and my hair thinned and eyebrows etc became sparse.  This second time around I'm having Carbo and Gemcitabine, no coldcap needed though hair thinning and eyebrows are even more sparse.  Chemo ending soon and I am determined to do all I can to get fit, back to my old self, and anything I can do to improve my appearance.  I know a very good water-based hair dye (Daniel Field), but is there a gentle product anyone has had success with for restoring eyebrows, eyelashes, and helping to thicken up hair?

There are all sorts of adverts, but I wondered if anyone on this forum has experienced success?  (I'm in the UK)

  • Hi Spooks

I had chemo for endometrial cancer in 2022. It was carboplatin and paclitaxel. I also did scalp cooling.

I did try the Daniel Field hair colour a couple of months after chemo finished but it did not take at all. My hairdresser suggested concentrating on conditioning, having any dry ends trimmed and then using my normal hair colour. (Nice and Easy) That took first time and my hair looked instantly better and I felt more myself.

For thickening my hair I found that using a little dry shampoo- especially the volume one- helped. I used it more as a styling product rather than as a shampoo. With any thin patches I disguised them with spray in root touch up. My hair was brittle in places post chemo so I stayed away from heat, hair spray etc.

With eye lashes and eye brows it is upsetting and I remember losing them again around a couple of weeks post final chemo- however within a couple of weeks they were looking fairly normal again.

I would say it was around 3-4 months post chemo that everything started settling and I looked and felt more like me.

    Good Luck

    Jane
