Hi All,
I am looking to get some advice in relation to Parp inhibitors. My Mum was diagnosed with ovarian cancer stage 4 in 2018. She initially had the standard 3 chemo surgery 3 chemo treatment. But the cancer returned 6 months later. And she is now on round 5 of 6 of chemo treatment. The plan is to have one more chemo then to be put on Parp inhibitors to hopefully delay the cancer returning. I have read the symptoms are very similar to chemo and was wondering if anyone had any experience of being on this drug ?
Hi and welcome to the online community
I'm sorry to hear that your mum has ovarian cancer. I don't have any experience with this type of cancer but noticed that your post hadn't had any response yet. This could be because others in this group haven't been put on PARP inhibitors as I had a look through the older posts and only came across a few.
I have found this information about PARP inhibitors for you on the Cancer Research website.
You could post any questions about this treatment in ask a nurse and one of the specialist cancer nurses will respond within 2 working days.
When you have a minute it would be really useful if could pop something about your mum's journey into your profile as it helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

Hi there. I have been on a PARP inhibitor for a number of years as a maintenance drug. In my experience, the side effects are nowhere near as drastic as chemo. I live a relatively normal life with minimal disruption. The worst side effects for me are insomnia, fatigue and heartburn. I know from following the forums over the years that reactions to PARP inhibitors are highly individual. Some patients have strong reactions to them and need dose reductions or can't tolerate them, while others have barely any side effects. It also depends which PARP inhibitor you take. They have slightly different side effect profiles. That said, they work for lots of patients and can slow or stop tumour growth, and I have read that they can kill off tumours too. So they are always worth considering if they are offered.
