Hi everyone, I wonder if any of you have had this happen, I guess I am looking for advice. I just went in for hernia surgery after having ovarian cancer surgery a year ago and getting an umbilical hernia on the scar. My Dr said he found white blob

in my abdomen, captured one and biopsied it, confirmed it was cancer and stitched me back up immediately. Tomorrow I am meeting with the chemo Dr, the CA 125 test came back under 30, and catscan showed a small increase in 2 lymph nodes. Now I am wondering why the Dr didn't continue with the surgery and insert the mesh? would it have been too dangerous to proceed or was he acting under stress of finding cancer or what?

Thanks for any advice you can offer me.

Hi my son has a large hernia but can't have the mesh fitted as he's been told he may need more surgery in the future, they can not opperate when the mesh is fitted as they would need special equipment to cut it & makes the surgery more risky. I hope this helps.

I am so sorry to hear about your sons hernia. it does make sense that they couldn't operate when the mesh is fitted. I hope he is doing OK and pray he will not need any surgery in the future. I have to go back next week for the surgeon to check the incisions so may learn a little more at that time. Chemo will start again on the 23rd.

Thanks Julia, I did well with the first round of chemo, because of neuropathy they are changing it up this next time.

Whats worrying me is that the hernia will somehow burst and I won't be able to have surgery. I am one of those people

who never sits still, love gardening, moving furniture around etc. My chemo Dr says I need to learn to be lazy, sounds ridiculous doesn't it? The support belt sounds like something I need to do, how does your son cope with not being able to lift etc?  Thanks for your interest and support.........

Hi Susie, I think it would be very rare for a hernia to burst, my son's is very large 2 x 4 inches, he does find it hard not to lift heavy objects and says it feels weird when I do it for him...if I can! But otherwise he carrys on as normal, he works as a doorman at a club at night & I do worry if he tackles someone but he is very good at defusing situations so has only happened a few times, he goes on long walks & plays with his niece & nephews & all the usual things, he does have to rest if he's having a bad day as he has gastroenteritis as well. I think it's good if you still do your hobbies but just pace yourself & rest too, I'm glad I can offer a bit of help, I wish this online support had been running when he first started.  Julia

Hello Julia, your sons job must be a worry for you, but like you say he is good at defusing situations!! I will pray for him if you would give me his fist name. Thats nice he goes on long walks and plays with his niece and nephews. He sounds like a good son. Yes it would have been good if this online support group would have been running when he first started but I hope you get many encouraging posts now.  I start chemo again next Tuesday for 8 sessions until the first week in August, I am not looking forward to it but did really well the first time, with no nausea at all. Hey, I am alive, my daughter and two granddaughters are driving to see us (16 hours each way) this weekend, so all is well in the world.
