Atezolizumab

I have been diagnosed with Pancoast Lung Cancer and also breast cancer.  I've had chemo and RT for the lung cancer which has shrunk but also spread to my adrenal glands.  The breast cancer has been untreated but have appt tomorrow to discuss whether an op (tumour removal or mastectomy) or whether to leave and carry on with immunotherapy treatment for lung.

Atezolizumab is the immunotherapy drug that I will be having and have just read this is good for lung and breast cancer (Triple negative).

Has anyone had this and can give me any insider info on it or know of anyone who has had this particular treatment?

Any info would be good Slight smile

Many thanks

    Hi K52A

I have had atezo along with chemo (4 cycles) - having my 15th atezo next thurs and after whole brain RT for 10 zaps starting the week after,  I will start a new course of 4 cycles of the same chemo/immuno.

  • Hi K52A. My sister had breast cancer, and had a double mastectomy with implants fitted at time of surgery. She then had 18 weeks of chemo, which finished in February last year. I don't have any knowledge of immunotherapy being used in breast cancer, so I think it may be a good idea if you joined the breast cancer group. You can join in the same way that you did in the lung group, just introduce yourself and ask your question there. I'll put the link here for you breast-cancer-forum

  • Hi SiT

Thanks for the info, it sounds like you've really been through it.  I've only just been told Stage 4 so a different mindset and taking time to compute.  Still positive though and will take what they offer.  I've not been told if I will have chemo with my azeto but from what I gather it is aimed at the adrenal glands.  Today have found out that I will have a small op to sort breast cancer out and then couple of weeks time will start the azeto.  It will be nice to settle into a kind of routine as since last June it all seems to have been go go go.

Good luck with your treatment and hope to hear an update from you soon Slight smile

  • Thanks for the info Chelle, I will definitely head on over to the breast cancer forum and see if they have any info there.

  • Update: I will be having a lumpectomy next Thurs with no further treatment for the breast.  I then will be having the immunotherapy on 22nd (if all goes well with op) but without chemo.

Does immunotherapy (Atezolizumab) without chemo mean less effective and (not sure how it works) will it target lung AND adrenal glands?

    TIA

I have atezo and was told chemo targets everything in the body and atezo targets certain things.  I have lung cancer and have had 4 cycles of chemo and atezo and now starting on atezo only.

  • Hi Karen, that is good news about the breast cancer. I'm sorry I am unable to answer the immunotherapy question for you, as it's not something I have had experience with. You can always ask one of our expert nurses this question. I'll put the link here for you ASK A NURSE

Good luck for next Thursday x

  • Thanks MazLC, I had 4 cycles of chemo with 33 sessions of radiotherapy and due to start on atezo 2 weeks today after breast op.  I will talk to the lung specialists about it nearer the time but it's all about the op at the moment.  Always good to hear from people who have already had experience of it though, helps me to stay positive Slight smile

Thanks Chelle, expecting all to go to plan so can move onto next treatment asap.
