My husband was diagnosed over a year ago with terminal liver cancer, with a year life expectancy.

Since leaving hospital with the horrendous news that day, we have had no follow up support and dealt with it all very much alone.  He has been doing OK most of the time but recently had terrible sweats but with a low temperature. Is this a common symptom? He wouldn't allow me to contact the doctor and has improved today.

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to read that you have had no support since being told that your husband had liver cancer. Has he been discharged from hospital back into the care of his GP? If this is the case then it is his GP who has overall responsibility for his care but if not then he should have been assigned a cancer nurse specialist (CNS) who would be his point of contact if he needs to speak to his hospital team.

I don't have any experience with liver cancer so I don't know if having terrible sweats with a low temperature are a sign of this type of cancer but I do know that if these are new or worsening symptoms then it's important that your husband seeks medical advice as soon as possible.

I realise that as it's the weekend your husband's GP or his CNS are probably not available so you may want to ring NHS111 for advice.

Hi I was diagnosed and given a similar prognosis 16 months ago. I occasionally get heavy night sweats and have had to change nightwear in the  night because it is wringing. wet, no temp. I have had this for a while but it is currently almost nightly. My consultant is a waste of space when it comes to discussing symptoms and side effects, one of the most bearable symptoms to me so i live with it. If you want to get in touch and discuss matters direct I aill be happy to do so, although I think we would have to do so outside this forum.
