I was diagnosed with advanced HCC on my portal vein a few months ago, it is inoperable and chemo resistant. i am 63, and normally very active thanks to support and activities organised by a charity called BLESMA, the limbless veterans (please dont ask how i lost my leg, its irrelevant and personal). because of my fitness level, i was offerred a part in a trial and got funding for SIRT. ON 3 jan, im going in to get my liver mapped via my femoral artery to find which arteries are supplying the tumour and to block the ones leading to to other organs. A couple of weeks later they're going in again to pack the tumour with millions of radioactive microspheres to shrink and hopefully destroy the tumour. i know some of you will be aware of SIRT, but reading through, a lot aren't. it is a very expensive treatment and they have to apply for funding.Im in touch with a few people in the US who have benefitted from SIRT, some have been caner free for a couple of years because of it. it's not suitable for everyone, but it cant do any harm to enquire

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll both find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

Thanks very much for taking the time to share your upcoming procedure with the group. I hope it goes well and it would be great if you could continue to share your experience.

When you have a minute, it would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and proposed treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
