Hi Guys I had my left kidney removed in December due to cancer, and a part of my bowel removed in September and an ileostomy bag fitted, I still get very tired, I have recently returned to work,  I'm only doing half days but get very tired. I was wondering if this is normal

  • Hi Brushman. I had my nephrectomy in July last year, 2020. It is hard to remember how I felt at your stage, but I do remember feeling tired and that tiredness coming on quite suddenly. One minute I would be fine and the next minute the exhaustion hit me like a sledgehammer. I thought of it as my body reminding me that it was busy using up energy to repair the  wounds from surgery!   I cannot comment on whether your experiences are normal, just tell you what happened to me. I had my kidney removed but you also had part of your bowel removed; I wasn’t working either and that must bring additional tiredness and stress, depending on your work. I have much more energy now.  Best wishes.

  • I had a kidney removed in October with cancer and now, 5 months later, I have days when I'm suddenly exhausted then others when I feel much better. I think it's probably part of the process and I'm retired so it will be harder for you I'm sure. Always worth getting a phone call from your GP if you are worried. Mags

  • O had my kidney removed last November and still get tired in the early evening. I am also out of work so the stress of finding a new job stops me from having a full night's sleep. I definitely have more energy though and have managed a few decent 10km walks in the past couple of weeks. Its my back that seems to hurt, maybe because my stomach muscles have not recovered yet. My doctor rekons this can take upto 12 months to feel better.
