Treatment

Hi. When is it too late for treatment. My mum has been having scans and tests since February. She has a lung biopsy and now she’s needing a kidney biopsy but we’re still waiting for an appointment. She has now had an appointment come for Thursday to see her urologist?? Do they do biopsies?? Why would the oncologist send her back to the urologist? Would it be because the lung node came back as not a metastatic kidney cancer! I just want her treatment to start so she can begin to feel a bit better. I’m worried the longer this goes on the less they’ll be able to do. They’ve already said it’s not curable but treatable. Any advice would be greatly appreciated x

  • Hello, Ariel. I can’t answer most of your questions but I can tell you that I was first looked after by Urology, presumably because they are experts in kidneys. Only later, well after my operation, was my care transferred to oncology.

Hopefully, others can tell you more.

    Best wishes.

  • Kidney biopsies are done by radiology and you will get an appointment at the Day Unit for it.

My urologist booked my kidney biopsy.

Well, that's how mine worked ^^.

Perhaps on Thursday they will tell you the biopsy has already been requested?

  • Hiya…. I was sent to Urology for my kidney surgery and only sent to Oncology after surgery and tests on the organ removed as to what cancer it was ….. Fingers crossed all goes well for your Mum xx
