Hi, 2 years ago I had a full nephrectomy of the left kidney due to a 9cm chromophobe. The only symptom I ever had was back pain. Last September I got the all clear, no sign of metastases, looks like the surgeon got it all. A few days ago the back pain started up again.  Of course, I'm terrified it's back, and coming for the other kidney.  But everything I've read about Chromophobe renal cancer suggests it's slow moving, low risk etc. theoretically all good news in terms of cancer.  So anyone out there got any advice/experience of chromophobe cancer?

  • Hi

Although I don't have the experience you're looking for I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet so I thought I'd see if I could help.

I used the search bar in the group and found that when typing 'chromophobe cancer' it brought up these results. I've sorted them into date order with the most recent first. You could have a read through and reply to any of the more recent posters if you think they could help you further.

It's natural to worry that the pain you're experiencing means that the cancer is back - we've all been there no matter what type of cancer we have. It's best to mention it to your CNS or GP so that it can be checked out. However, remember it's easy to forget that it could be something else entirely and I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that it is.

Wishing you all the best and do come back and let us know how you get on after you've spoken to your CNS or GP.

Thank you so much for this. I contacted the GP and they seem to think it's muscular rather than sinister, but I worry. I guess that's normal though Slight smile

  • That's good to hear . You're right though that worrying is just natural after a cancer diagnosis. I'm 4 years on from being diagnosed with melanoma and I have got to the point now where I don't assume that every little ache and pain is cancer related but instead due to my age! However, it took me a good while to get to that point.

    Take care
